This has brought back rather sad memories. We lived next door to Seymour Randall who  was very involved with the Namib Stragglers. Both of his daughters suffered from asthma and (if memory serves me correctly) it wasn't long after Bruce Fordyce's visit that the youngest daughter had a really bad asthma attack and passed away. I think I must've been about Sub B/Std 1 at the time which would have made that 83/84, I can't remember whether she actually managed to run with Bruce or not.

I can remember my folks attending the funeral but us kids not being allowed to.

I remember that - Belinda Randell,  I think the sisters name was Kirsten.
Belinda had long blond hair and her sister had long curly black hair - I think she was only about 5 at the time.  They had  a pool in their back garden........

5 sounds about right, but I thought her name was Janine?

idontknow

Will phone my mom and ask if she remembers.

I met Bruce Fordyce on the last argus ride i did 2001  .. I had a bad start .. buckled my front wheel .. went  into panic.. managed to get a new  wheel from one of the   booths .. anyhow on the way down hospital hill I saw this cyclist in front of me with his front wheel wobbling  dangerously .. i drew up to him and advised him to  just keep the brakes gently applied  to control it .. then I recognised him as the Bruce .. we got chatting as we we moved along .. indeed a humble and very nice person  and yes  riding and old clapped out  bicycle ...   for all his  wealth there was he for sentimental reasons still  riding on his old  skedonks with a  dodgy front rim  ?/ quirky hey ??
To see  sometimes  requires that you  first believe .

Remember Bruce's visit to OMD, as a couple of us youngsters were recruited as waiters for the function held in the Rec. Club Main Hall. He seemed to be a very "down to earth" person.
