Remember how in the 70's a lot of fruit tree's were planted all over the town? Well an enteprising lady picked these of her tree here in town and sold them to us at Spar....not bad for a desert town?

Thta's fantastic.  Pity I can't ship mine up to you - they drip off my tree and I usually have herbs coming out of my ears!  Not the green stuff people!

Back in the 70's/80's, Aunty Marie Redl (Dennis & Lorina Proctor's mom) used to pick and bottle the olives off the olive trees growing along 5th avenue.

Those olive trees produce a mountain of olives these days, in season they drop onto the road, the birds are evrywhere and the road gets stained.... it's incredible the wastage.....

Marie Redl, did'nt she have the hotdog cart?

lived in 2nd ave? opposite our house?

somebody should take up where aunty marie left off......make a fortune.  you know something Mike, until my boet told me about 2 years ago about aunty marie bottling those olives, i never knew those were olive trees (him & dennis were/still are best of buds) - aunty marie used to sometimes send them to do the picking.  jeez, if i'd known, i'd have done some picking myself - I LOVE olives.....

I'm not sure where Uncle Frans and Aunty Marie lived - 2nd ave rings a faint bell, same with the hotdog cart.  Lance (my boet) would be able to tell u more about that one.  She worked in the hairdressing salon for many years as well as spending many a weekend at mcdoug's as they had a house there. Lance & Dennis eventually bought the house off them for R16K back in the 80's.

I remeber stealing pomegranates from the tree hanging over "mad Margarets" house in first Ave.  I was always terrified she would hear us and catch us.
