For those of you who might be interested, As you know this is an Advert free/Profit free site and serves one purpose..... to reconnect Oranjemunders...

I have taken out a classifieds advert in the District Post(Helderberg Weekly) for one Month as from next week advertising the site, I hope that this attracts more old timers. I am led to believe that there are quite a few living in this Newspapers Catchment area.....

ANyone who can get there Grubby paws on  a copy...please scrounge through the classifieds and see if it is there.....  msn emoticon (9)

Took a drive to Stellenbosch early morning to be first in line in the organic market to get the most wonderful freshly baked  rye bread, and to sniff around ( cuqui weed) for a few veggie plants and herbs.  So Mike, I managed to "get my grubby paws" on the Helderberg Post, and there it was - the Oranjemund ad is in!  Here it is:

notfair - what I would give to be in Cape Town today, able to go to a market and then off to wander the shops, ending with a nice meal in some fancy restaurant! I guess it doesn't help knowing that my folks drove down yesterday!  image031

Oh well, at least the girls and I had a chance to sort through their rooms sorting out old toys for the underpriviledged and moving their rooms around and I'm sure Mike's chicken potjie will be great this afternoon! Was also nice to have Adriaan pop in for a while this morning and Stennie will no doubt be here later!

Yes, the market was fun.  Even found a plant there I was looking for for a long time - "Kougoed" (Sceletium tortuosum) - The bushmen used it as a sedative - it's wonderful - makes one sleep very "rustig", without any side effects or danger of addiction.  In fact, the Nama people called it "Onse droĆ« dop", because they used it to help alcoholics get over their withdrawal symptoms.   Very effective and safe, even for kids.

@ Michele - shopping?  Today?   :wow1: You wont catch me in a shopping centre today (I hate them anyway).  Today is the first day of the school holiday, and the last weekend of the month, so it's packed in all the big centers.  I usually do my shopping at 8am on Sundays, and I'm finished by 9am!  Can't stand people walking in the isles and park their trolley in the middle of the space.  If you put me in a centre in the middle of the day, I'll probably be in the paper tomorrow - "Mad Man runs over 7 shoppers in shopping trolley rage incident". image16

No  Bertie  ,, a  perfectly normal  reaction to inconsiderate people  who need to go  back to manners  school ... so  let no  shrink tell you   you have a problem .. " they of no manners " have the problem .. the same with child control .. I have a good tactic .. I gently put my hand on the  errant childs head and  steer him/her  back in the direction of the unthinking parents ... trolley rage ..  I  loudly but politely say ,, " excuse me  please !! " and as i pass the cleared path mutter  about inconsideration ...   they can  throw a shitfit for all i care .. its their BP thats gonna  suffer not mine ...

Sandy - Glad I'm not alone on this one.  I usually appear quite calm on the outside.  But boy, lately I feel like I'm getting close to a terrible outburst.  I also hate inconsiderate people, in many different walks of life.  Even in the surgery - people come late 20 minutes and don't even say "I'm sorry".  Then I'm late for the next appointment/s and I am the one doing the apologizing.  But it's changing, I've taken enough and lately I say my say and if they can't take it, I even supply them with other dentists' numbers in the area - don't need sh**ty patients to ruin my life.  Another thing - I remember before my Mom took me to the dentist, I had to really scrub my teeth so they are clean, for it might reflect badly on her if it's not.  Well, I get kids sitting in the waiting room, eating Nik-Naks just before their appointments.  The mother's attitude - "aren't you going to clean them anyway?"  It makes me want to strangle the mother and kids!

Oh boy are you two on my topic! I HATE SHOPPING IN ANY SHAPE OR FORM!!!!!!! And as for the whole Cape Town thing of let's have a day out and take Ouma, Oupa, snotkoppies and the neighbours for our monthly grocery shopping outing - ARRGGGHHHHHHH!!!!  Pick 'n Pay rage - one day there will be headlines "Grumpy woman runs over ten families in Pick n Pay - maims 100+!"

Bertie Horak

Maybe we were all just brought up in Oranjemund where there were never any long queues and shopping was a pleasure?

Nothing to do with that .. we had parents that drummed in  consideration ...  a simple and good value ... same as in traffic .. give and take ..    cat3

Will not stand in any queues if I can help it, if service is that slow there is always another shop / resteraunt etc with better service.

Home affairs and city council are places I avoide like the plague and shopping centres ( specifically at the end of month / school & public holidays etc)

The market you went to today Bertie - Southeys Vines one?

Went to Stodels today and bought lots of herbs to refresh my garden, fennel, wild rocket, flat leaf parsley, chamomile, thyme, basil and sage and tomorrow I am going snail hunting - they are noshing all my young strawberries!
