Museum For our Wreck!

I have been asked to add the following question by a concerned resident:

" WILL THE MUSEUM FOR THE SHIPWRECK DEFINATELY BE BUILT IN ORANJEMUND  FOR THE FUTURE AND SuSTAINABLILITY OF THE TOWN??? OR IS PROCLOMATION STORY JUST again  AND  A ANOTHER LAME EXCUSE "

The blerrie Luderitz people came to town and wanted a memorandum of understanding to be signed with regard to our wreck, I do not know the finer details...but they can piss off....their Waterfront is a white elephant and yet they want to pump a further 400 million of taxpayers money into it.... Now they want our wreck..... that wreck belongs to the entire country...if not the world... So piss off! Get your own wreck!

What I heard, (don't you just love working in shop with gossip!) Was that the shell of an empty powerstation could be turned into a Mine Type musrem, with some old mine machines.... Kinda like that place at Georg, the transport Museum.... and in the centre would be a glass box with a replica of the wreck.... pump in a few tourist type kiosks and shops , employ 14 workers..... and Bob's your Uncle......

Oranjemund needs to establish a tourism centre , not a single tourist company owned by 3 shareholders, as I have heard is being tried!

Now what do Luderitz have to do with the wreck  .. they can have the  plastic replica in the glass  case .... They are a fishing town ..  and the wreck was found on the mine ..  so therefore  relevant to the mine ,, as  said if there was no mining activity it would most probably never have been found . True ??

True...and as a local politician put it to me the other day....Luderitz tourism never gave a hoot about Oranjemund for the last 30 years... but no suddenly they are flying in here....... bollocks to them!

I agree.  It's Oranjemund's wreck.  Didn't they say they didn't want any more antique coins found on the coast for they already have enough coins?  With that attitude - GO AWAY!  As far as tourism goes - when I ask people who say they toured Namibia via Luderitz, most of them say they wouldn't include Luderitz in a future trip - too far out of the way, and too expensive.

You guys stick to your guns and make enough noise, it may be a godsend that the wreck was found on the mine.
I agree that the LZ "waterfront" is a white elephant.
Luderitz have their museum, Oranjemund needs its own and Nature conservation should have a presence in the Town, to encourage tourism, let LZ have the passing trade.
If you can get the Tourists to Oranjemund and make their visit there memorable, Luderitz whill have to wake up to capyure any trade.
