They have found more gold coins. And going to encase the remains in concrete so as to preserve it. A museum will be opened in OMD where some of the relics etc will be on permanent display. So even more for the tourists to view.

Ran the risk of being submerged: Lisbon safeguards traces of the sixteenth century Portuguese ship discovered off the coast of Namibia

Lisbon said today it´s in it's interest "vital" to protect the remains of a Portuguese ship of the XVI century,  discovered on the coast of Namibia. The Ministry of Culture announced this in reacting to news that gave account of the risk of submersion menacing the ship.

In a clarification to the media, the Ministry of Culture reacts "to the news made public in recent days," noting that already in early September it was "clear that the fundamental interests of the Portuguese Government was to ensure the full protection of remains concerned".

THE PUBLICO reported on Monday that the sixteenth century Portuguese ship was in risk of being submerged after the 10th of October, an information that the Portuguese Ministry of Culture did not have to  past Sunday, as recognized by the spokesman Rui Peças.

According to news advanced Saturday by the French agency AFP, the Namibian government and De Beers, one of the world's largest producers of diamonds - which over the past six months have kept the integrity of the find - do not intend to spend after that date the EUR 1700 per day that the operation involves.

Lisbon recalls that the namibian government invited the Portuguese to take part in the rescue efforts of the Portuguese ship and that the climate is of "full cooperation and commitment" an opinion reiterated in a recent meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, between diplomatic representatives of the two countries.

According to the release, this meeting resulted in the dislocation to Portugal of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Namibia, on a date to schedule,
