Ok  the bioscope / cinema thing ...  time to  post  some    memories  ..I have copied out a story my dad told  of a  cinema incident  that I posted on I scatterlings .. I recall  as  well  many a time  when i worked in Caseys .. at  interval  the  men  would ostensibly  go  to  the  cafe to get  chocs  for  wifey  , stop in  for a quick  shot but  sometimes  get  caught in  the  honeypot    and  then  the  sh..  would  hit  the fan   .. this  is  a  bit  of  a  tall  tale maybe but  then  who  knows ?? ....

Who knows more of the story , with  I think Ollie Oliver, that went to the shop to buy a loaf of bread, landed up in Caseys's got pissed and somehow landed up in CapeTown...? ANyone?

i remember something about freddie aggenbag and his brother in law going to fix a car at swartkops and took it for a test drive and ending up in cape town. they were missing for a couple of weeks or so. on their return the two of them were never allowed out of town  together unless going on leave.

my father told me about that so the facts could be alittle exagerated.

maybe sandy or other longer serving omunders know something about that??????

Only catching up on the forum so this reply is a little late. Koos if you were friends with Ronny, then I think you mean Ronny Young who was the same age as my brother Billy and Bobby Smith, which ties in with the music, so you are very close to 50.

Hi Uwe,

The last time we spoke was around mid 72. I remember we used to go to the movies with 20 cents. 10 Cents covered the movie entrance and the rest was spent at the Desert Inn Café afterwards. I think a bag of Simba chips was 3 cents back then. One of my personal favorites was those little bags of sherbet that they sold at the café. I have not seen those since.

I still have a sticker from those days, advertising the "Crunchies" big bites for 2 and a half cents!
Some of those movies have stayed by me.  There were some shorts shown just before the movie, I remember one about this monster spider (the size of a rhino) attacking people.  I think it was during the Saturday afternoon shows.

I remember them showing all the Bud Spencer - Terence Hill movies at the matines. Oh and the Burt Reynolds ones too (Smokey and the bandit and others).

I missed those movies so much that I actually downloaded Smokey and The Bandit rides again....just for the nostalgia.....

Crunchies, my ALL TIME FAVORITE. Two and a half cents, Wow, I should have bought more back then. (I suppose that is why they call it the good old days) You can get them here in the USA but they are scarce and more expen$ive than the run of the mill. The movies that I enjoyed the most were the old WWII movies. I remember The Battle of Britain and Kelly's Heroes. These movies left such an impression on me that I started collecting the old classics on DVD. Watching these oldies on my video projector is still one of my favorite pastimes.

As kids we used to play out the movie story line on our way home from the movie theater. I remember watching the original "The Red Tent" 1971 telling the  true story of an ill-fated 1928 expedition to the North Pole. Needless to say, we took forever getting home that day reenacting the survivors slugging it out in harsh wind/ice conditions.

Hahahaha Johan, the play acting on the way home after the movie was half the fun of going to matinee..... Was it my imagination or was there a helluva lot of westerns shown as matinee's?  I also remember the "Thats all Folks" cartoon in front of the movie.........

I remember the old Wild West movies. My all time favorite serial was Zorro.  We used to play Cowboys and Crooks and sometimes Cowboys and Indians.  Nobody wanted to be the Crooks.  Do you remember the "Clap Guns" from way back? They had a little roll of exploding powder dots on a long paper strip that you loaded into the revolvers. The paper was usually red but sometimes green. They made a bit of a pop but nothing much. 
We sometimes exploded these by banging them between stones.

What about the little black patato guns. You would poke the end of the gun into a patato and shoot away. You could also put those red plastique caps in them
