An interesting Tale!

I was talking to a mate of mine, Johann, he is not from Omund, but works contract work here fro COurt Helicopters...anyhow, he recounts a story of how he and his wife, Crystel, went to Germany on holiday a few years back, I think it was Basel or something to that affect...... when they phoned to book the hotel, the owner noticed his accent and enquired where he was from..... Johann just replied, SOuth Africa, anyhow when they got there, they were given an above standard room with an aewome view of the river and were also informed that they were invited to dinner by the owner of the hotel.....

At dinner time, the owner enquired whereabout in South Africa did they live, to which Johann replied, being a pilot, he was all over the place, but lately in a town in Namibia called Oranjemund...... The German owner, smiled and said to Johann, Yes! I know it well, I was the baker in Oranjemund back in the old days......

I thought this a wow story, Johann does not remember the name of the Hotel.... reckons the German must have been about 70 years old a few years back...

So the question, do any of you old timers, know who the old German baker was, that went back to Basel to open a hotel?

I remember ,, a short  german  speaking Jewish baker ,, had blondish hair , wore a toupee ..  quiet refined gentleman .. used to have the  odd scotch with my dad in Kateys ..  and was not adverse to  celebrating anyones   special days  , St Patricks , Burns etc .. name escapes  me but I'm getting  the name Bernard ringing around .. anyone  remember ??

Johann  will ask his wife , if she remembers the name of the hotel, then we can throw it into the forum and see how our cyber detectives do in tracing this old timer or his family...it should be interesting!

Remember the pic below from the main site...... who was this guy? this was the baker in the late 50's I think!

This Guy was  single .. used O'mund to make and squirrel money away .. so yes if it was him  then  it would have been  used to  buy a hotel ..  damm  none of my folks alive the y would  complete the story  ... my dad always spoke so nicely of him .. the one evening he  sat  drinking scotches  the  baker who  his yumulka on as it was a  jewish festival but he had no family to celebrate it with so went down to Kateys  and  shared the time with my Dad ...

No  .. not lost .. he exists in my mind , that I can describe him and do recollection ..  and share memory of him on this site means he is not lost .. maybe I ought to ask Ena Bennet ??

Will see my Dad later today and ask him. He was always at the bakery..used to bring hot bread home every morning.....no cold bread for us...

On the way to school in the morning....     I never ate those crusts, just the how, warm., moist doughy inside of those loafs....... I also always wondered, why nobody from security ever nailed those guys for giving us free bread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  pan(1)

Oh Mike¬¬¬¬¬¬ no crusts...the best part of the bread ....Loved the hot bread with loads of butter...
Its a wonder we got away with alot of things that we did.....cooldrink factory....included
