Yes, mine is also north, me and George talking 'bout same place.
Which road would you have taken to go to the quarry to the east of town?  I only remember dunes there.

Hope this reply isn't posted twice, dial-up problems again today.
I don't remember that quarry.  The trees, yes, played there quite a lot.  I do remember a "foefie-slide" in that area. Long cable ran down the dune, and if you lifted your feet, you could go a long way.  Lifted my feet a little too high once and had to take out little pieces of rusted cable out of the top of my foot for months!
Some families also got together there to celebrate "Guy Faux" where we kids would watch the grown-ups launch rockets and burn fountains, while we would write our names in the dark sky with sparklers - now they burn them in the Spur! I remember you could push them into the dune sand, and when you pulled it out, they would still be sparkling!! Magic!!!  Quite an exciting outing when you're that small.
Wish people would do that around here - light their fireworks outside town away from the houses and pets. Horror stories every year.

Thanx Georg, will search for it.  Still want to go through old posts to see what has been discussed earlier when I have time.  Lot to catch up on!  Pity I only heard of this amazing website 2 weeks ago on facebook.  I'm sorry if I repeat things any of you said before, will work on that over the weekend!

That's normal until you know your way around.
You'll soon see, there's also plenty of chit chat between the facts. So you'll be filtering all the way.
Must of us addicts love the chit-chat, bitch-slapping ect. So it's up to you what you want from this board.

I'm slowly but surely starting to learn.  One thing though, I'm struggling to get my pea-brain around the free bar and pole dancing.  Maybe I'll be able to pop in and have a beer in the famous, yet hidden, bar!
I'll get there eventually,

Your sand quarry used to be where the foofy slide was, and before that it use to be the lover's hill of Oranjemund.  The hill had two track, one for ascending and one for descending, don't know why but .......  One night we decided to go up the "wrong" track and what should we find?  A VERY married guy with a skelmpie!  We surprised them big time because they only saw us when we were basically next to them!  It was bare bums diving over the seats but we all knew who the car belonged to!!!!

Zorro

There were many married guys with skelmpies..    The quarry I knew was the one near the Moths.
