Nov 11th  armastice day .. the day of poppies .. very significant .. 5  good  people in my life have their birthday on the same day including John 11/11/47 ... and yes the foolishness of war ...  we must remember .. and try not to repeat the same mistakes ..
To see  sometimes  requires that you  first believe .

You´re right Mike very sad

Come to think of, the soldiers on both sides,

german french english, stopped fighting, they had enough of the nonsense

but the generals forced them to go on with the threat of executions which have also taken place.....

Feel like puking knowing the stories behind it..... Still very fresh in my mind after visiting some few weeks back

Couldn't agree more Snr. WW1 was more of a war that nobody wanted as compared to WW2. There are wonderfull stories surfacing nowdays of the cameraderie between both sides, where exchanges of food and medical supplies took place between the opposing trenches. One famous incident took place over Christmas once when the Brittish and German forces downed weapons and joined eachother to celebrate Christmas, sharing their meagre rations with eachother before resuming hostilities again a day later.

Wasn't there a game of soccor played as well on Christmas day..............Paul Mc Cartney sang a song and had this image in the video - think the song was 'Pipes of Peace'

I think the soccer game was played on boxing day, Rhona.  I'm not sure what the final score was though, only recall they made a ball from a rolled up blanket tied together with string. Great stuff nevertheless. One image that quite touched me was from actual footage filmed on the day when they had a christmas carol sing along on christmas eve and shared photos of their families back home with one-another, afterwards they exchanged small gifts of chocolates or cigaretts with eachother.
