Mothballs and Downturns!

I was at the bowling club last night and was talking to a chap, who has been living in and out of Omund for the last 30 years..... works for M&Z.... he is very optimistic about the future of Oranjemund, and reminded me that back in the day, 1980....CDM was going through some very tough market conditions..... Doom and Gloom was everywhere...... The mine was cutting back, people were leaving...... But a wise thing that the mine did back then, he told me... was instead of selling of all there earth moving equipment via auction.... they drove the bulk of them up to Daberas, into the desert and mothballed them in the dry air..... when conditions improved ...they just brought them all back to the coast...this saved huge expenses for the mine at that stage.....

i just thought that it was an interesting point.....
