London - Fifa president Sepp Blatter has spoken to three countries about hosting the 2010 Soccer World Cup if a natural catastrophe forces it away from South Africa.

It forms the Plan B drawn up by Fifa with less than two years until football's showpiece tournament heads to Africa for the first time.

Concerns are mounting about South Africa fulfilling its hosting obligations after Tuesday's announcement that the Port Elizabeth stadium is unlikely to be completed in time for next June's Confederations Cup tuneup event.

The World Cup preparations have been plagued by stadium construction delays, security fears, transport problems and the possibility of power outages.

"I have spoken to three possible, not only possible, but three associations and countries that would be able to stage the World Cup in one year's time," Blatter said in an interview broadcast on Thursday by Sky News. "They need one year (to prepare)."

Blatter would not name the countries when asked if 1966 host England was one of his options. "

In my opinion with input from a BIG football supporter here.

All of those issues listed plus the fact that SA doesn't have the optic cable setup for fast live transmission
the TV companies own the event and want security.
They need to broadcast live the time difference is good for Europe but the reliability is not there. 

I saw Sandton being dug up by two separate companies one on the left one on the right putting in cable in March when I visited.

I would be surprised is it remains in  South Africa.
I wonder what Man Unt will report back, apparently Rooney is ill since his visit - virus ? malaria.

Hell man  the stadium is huge .. well you know my opinion on the  soccer thing .. overrated ..  too many  overpaid administrators  and some heavily overpaid prima donnas on the field .   big money that  could ( of course well and honestly managed ) been put  to far better use ..
Hell man  i echo Mikes comment  on people not saying a thing about the one guys transfer  fee  in england cos its footer .. same here I remeber seeing on  the box a few years ago  Bafana  returning from a disasterous tour .. there was the creme de la creme of society at  OR tambo airport  jeering them , now if only those folk would jeer the politicians that have screwed them over in the same manner ??
