I met Joco in his home in 1983 when Günter and Helga Machts visited Germany, we drove there......

Joco was the Polony Maker, he also lived in Lüderitz/Kolmanns before coming to O-mund

yes please do Georg. We need personal experiences/memories of folk that actually lived on Kolmans.
Possible questions to get Joco going.
When was he in kolmans?
What did he do there?
What did he do for recreation?
What was it like living in Kolmans?
When did he leave Kolmans?
Does he remember any other Kolmanskoppers who went to OMD?

To get straight : I have worked in Luderitz in 1955/56 and at that time Kolmans was strictly Out of Bounds , even more for all the ones living in Luderitz. I may have some arial black and white photos  from the place. I applied for an advertised job in O;mund again and again but was always put of . Only after I left Luderitz it took only a few weeks and I received a telegram with an offer for the job (blockman) I had applied for so many times. My reply was : Except the job but can come only in three month time. To my great suprise the managements was Accepted. So I had move away from Luderitz (to be Clean) into the inland before I could pack allmy things again to move to O'mund in the beginning of 57. When living in town I only had the opportunity to go to Kolmans once,collecting catle fo the abbatoir , by that time I was already in charge of the meat processing ( being a fully qualified German butcher) ,grading and health-Ainspecting the slaughtered animals. During this time Bill Harper was in charge of the abbatoir who retired , I think,68/69 and Reiner Wagner was in charge of the Butchery with two more blockmen and an always changing lady cashier.     JOCO

Joco,  I remeber we went to a wedding reception in Kolmans in the recreation hall.  1954, I think it was.  The couple (Myburgh) from Oranjemund were married in Ludritz. We travelled back to Oranjemund the next day.

John this is fascinating, according to the literature mining stopped in Kolmans in 1950 and the 'last person' moved out in '56. I'd like to know who the 'last person' was. Probably the postmaster or the shopkeeper.

Interesting story Joco. So it appears that the Luderitz crowd were perceived as diamond smugglers.
