Yes, different versions of these stories were forever passed around.  Never was the word "diamond" used it was always "stones" or a "parcel", we enjoyed these stories.

I would suppose every mining village would have such a close knit population as we had in the 1950's.

Everybody knew everybody else and were forever "skindering" about others.
