This house was built by a private COntractor in Oranjemund, for more than N$1 million...... anyhow, due to the current global financial crises.... the guy left and sold the premises to the mine.....

The mine has no use for the house and sources state that the mine would be willing to rent it out to anyone who is willing to fork out N$10 000 per month...... any takers?

The house is situated on the grass patch in Inner Circle......

what would N$10 000 be in RSA Rands?

Michael Alexander

R1 = N$ 1

In Namibia we use both Rands and Nam Dollars..... same value, they are linked.....

Not a bad offer - might be something to salvage there!  I know what new tunnels cost, and according to your earlier photos of the dilapidated tunnels, it looks like the framework is still fine....
But then.... I'm still waiting for E10/11....

Another million bucks wasted......mine had to buy a house they did not need because of a buy back option they had with builders of the house.

Yep! Yep! Bertie..... you will be able to market your greens as Grown in the Green Namib,

@ Stennie, I feel that this buy back option was a very short sighted idea, that however cannot be blamed on the current Mine Management, this was a "wise" idea back in the days of Willie Rentel & Co..... We at Spar also built a house in town, not happy with having to do that , as it cost us almost half a million (money which we could really use right now)..... yet even back then there were still empty houses in Omund, yes! I agree, they were not maintained, but we and quite a number of private enterprise people offered to take the houses as is, maintain them at our cost, at Namdeb standards..... but the mentality of Allied Services at the time was still that of a blinkered mammoth... covered in red tape, living in the past..... for some strange reason, they were telling us to build houses for the future of Oranjemund..... nobody knew that the world would be a financial mess at this stage, but the mines original plans for the next few years did show the downscaling of the workforce.... so it made complete sense to us private guys, that there was no reason to build the houses......

Jeez that's a good bye,that's 1 Aussie dollar = 6.5 Rand

The rent is steep 10,000 Rand a month or $1,538 A/D.

Where as it could be bought outright for $153,800 A/D

Mind if these calculations are wrong its this Chinese calculator

There again its a bit far for the Boat club or the RSL.

Its a pity I don't have citizenship  sorriso2
