Yacht Club To Sink?

I took Michele's car down to the Yacht Club this morning for a quick run..... Now the Yacht Club has not functioned as a club for a number of years, no boats and the water in the pan is a problem with water growing everywhere.....

Anyhow, there was a chap and his girlfriend living at the yacht Club for about two years, nobody really minded as he seemed to have green fingers and planted a few palm tree's and basically contributed to the upkeep of the place....In fact the place was looking a damn sight better than what it used to look like like....

I noticed this morning, that the grass is starting to fade, the tree in the top corner dying..... I assume that the chap has left as their are no longer any cars parked under the boat sheds.......

Anyone want to rent and live in a Yacht Club..... anyone know anything about the name of the fish species that eats pond ?

Noticed on Google Earth that the water level of the Pink Pan was quite low - this is a new image taken this year. Looks like its not even possible to sail there now. Sad.

Malcolm .. during my visit  in Nov .. I did walkabout .. the old  sea water seepage dam  behind  the pan  that water was pumped  from to keep the pan  topped up  is  now a mere  sand filled in  pond ... the pump station gone ...  awful sight .. we used to have fun at the seepage dam .. sandboarding down the sides  , but having to bail  out in time so as not  to get dumped in the  water ..

No, we can't let this happen. I spent almost all my weekends there as a child while my dad (and sometimes my mom) sailed away leaving us kids to get on with our lives, and what fun it was. Can almost hear 'Walking back to happiness' in the background. Those were the days ... my friend ... la la la ...

What if you put a proposal to management for someone (me) to look after the place.  A few bottles of red wine as pay would do me.

I'm sure there are worse jobs and places to live in the world.

So many people do not have a roof over their head. Some of them will look after the CYC for free and keep it in good condition. OTM Co will not do that, except if one of them get a personal income for their trouble. The Erasmus couple kept the CYC in an excellent condition, they got a house in town now. So the CYC is going down again.

  Yes the "nice" couple did water the grass, that didn't cost them any money as the water and electricity is for free - remember, HOWEVER they locked their dog up in the main lounge every day where he did all his doggy business freely ie peed and crapped every where and when the main lounge was set up for an important meeting with lightpro machines, white boards, etc and the people went in the next morning the dog was running around in the lounge and certain members of Exco had to clean up dog mess. The GM went to wake Mr Erasmus up and ask him nicely why was his dog there and could he please come and clean the mess up, was told in no uncertain manner to go away. Mr Erasmus works in Rosh Pinah where housing is expensive and he has to pay for water and lights. Makes you think doesn't it. The yaught club is being used for meetings and breakaway sessions so it doesn't cost huge money for alot of people to travel, and every body won't be disturbed by telphones and people "popping" in and out. So it is not going to waste that much.

On One of my travels this morning, armed with a GSD and camera, I stopped at the Yacht club.... turned the sprayer on and walked around for 40 minutes........ the weather is getting the better of this building, with a lot of the roof covering being blown off....

Any old timers, know if old railway lines were brought from town to be used when the cement was poured down here? see first pic!

Rumour has it that when the Yacht Club was only fed with salt water there were no weeds but when fresh water from the river was pumped into the pan weeds started to appear. It was decided to obtain theese fish and breed them at the Power Station old cooling tower tanks. I remember eating fish (can't remember their name though) being kept there in the early eighties. That was until the late Frank Quirk decided to do some gas cutting on the frames of the old dry wooden towers. He was carrying out some prep work to remove the upper structures over the weekend but alas, a few sparks fell onto the wood and within 30 minutes the whole structure was burn down with the fish being somewhat boiled in the tanks below the burning structure.
