Death of the Practice Range!

Took the dog for a walk in the howling wind...... Walked along the usual route, down 5th avenue, across by the seven sisters and back up along the practice range, behind the police station,. noticed that the big sprinkler on wheels was still standing in the same position for the last 2 months now.... the pipes that feed it, scattered along the dead grass, on closer examination saw that one of the wheels that supports the big sprinkler was broken and then I inspected the water pipe, I was gonna turn the big sprayer on anyhow....... then I saw that the seal that connects the water pipe to the main pipe had perished.... So it seems it was easier just to leave the entire contraption rusting in the wind on that neglected grass as opposed to removing /fixing it...... Sigh! How we spiral downwards.....

In case you were wondering, yes! I did see somebody practising there three weeks back.....

Oh! here are those snaps.... that row of bluegums on the right will be dying off soon as the water that gave them life has now gone......   sad how we make a big event out of Arbor day to plant four young trees, yet we allow 30 big ones die.....sigh! who are we kidding, I also noticed a number of grass verges around town, that a year ago were immaculate lawns and are now just pure namib desert........

African dustbowl mentality ??  they want  to  turn Table mountain into  Bald mountain ...   willy nilly  destruction of  established forests with no concrete plan  of decent replacement ...   Pines are bad  they  say in xenophobic fervour ..  even stone pines which  are the most  economical   in water  usage ..  see the erosion due to disturbance of wht has  established itself oer the years ...  palukkas ,,,

The one thing that makes Oranjemund so different from all the other dustbowl towns in Namibia, is the unique greenery ...... the stark contrast between the dry desert and the green lush town...... obviously the people running the show do not see it this way..... roll on east wind... remember how all those tree's were planted to help break the wind and especially those big east winds..... The windbreaks to the eat of town are no longer doing any good.... just wait for the next big one.....

Not a blade of green grass to be seen down here anymore..... no Gemsboks graszing.... I don't mind if the grass dies, but heck people, don;t let those tree's die also....

Is it just me, or do the tree';s between the practice range and industrial road, look very very thirsty, as if they are not receiving any water?
