My bet is meteorite. There wont be any wreckage. Would have loved to see it myself.
Maybe the little green men just popped in because they heard that's the place to get the best beer and biltong?

Surely a meteorite would have left a more linear smoke trail......

That there must be a waterspout.....

That there definitley looks like a dusty whirlwind, or even a waterspout, which is a whirlwind (more a tornado) over the water. The angle of the sun at around 18h30 would give it that red colour, as a sunset would be seen after sand storms.

The edges of the spout looks too ragged to me. Looks more like the trail of something that had happened a while ago (20 min's or so), disintegrating. Will take pictures this Sunday of jet-lines. Looks very similar there in Bonnievale. Would have loved to see video footage rather than a single photo.

See what I mean? This was a jet's trail after about 20 minutes.
