Somebody just emailed me about the ex East Gate Takeaway folk taking over the Sperrgebiet Guesthouse Kitchen, A Lot of chatter on the wires as to why or how they got this right.....  In essence , the main kitchen at the Posh Guesthouse has been given to the Folk from the Takeaways that used to operate down at Eastgate, we are all entitled to our opinions, so here is mine.....

I think it is a good move,as the Kitchen was under utilized.... I also know that the folk who have taken it over also make grand food and are often called apon to cater for Presidents and Knob type folk.... They have not taken over the entire guesthouse, just the kitchen ..... and Like I said to a local politician this morning..... If the mine owns the Guesthouse or kitchen, they can bloody well give it to whoever they want to......

Perhaps if the pink palace, Flamingo;s had been opened , then this might not have occurred

For those of you who are interested, I believe Dorothy creates the best Quiches in town.... especially the Feta and spinach ones....

Just my two cents....

Mike A, the kitchen at the Sperrgebiet Guesthouse has always been under used and if the equipment that used to be there is still present (debatable though), then why not utilise it. I agree with you Mike, the food that Dorothy makes is very good indeed but what about you mother in law's spinach and feta quiches....????

Whatever happened to the central kitchen that was operating in my appie days?????

Michael Alexander

A White Elephant, has been for the last 15 years, a small and I mean a very small portion of it is being used by a catering company, Sodexho to supply the mines workforce with meals.....

Alf is that the old tractor that was red once at the riding club??

Alfred Boehme

Chris
No this is the old petrol - paraffin tractor we repaired at a holiday resort the old timers called it Val jappie
You would start it on petrol and when it was warmed up would run on paraffin

Andrew Darné

@ Chris... the red tractor at the Riding Club is still there and gets used regularly. It is a much newer Massey Ferguson model than the Vaal japie Alf is sitting on.
All things electrical contain smoke. Making it come out is easy; getting it back in? ... yeah right!!!

Yes Chris, time flies. I remember when the Central Kitched first opened, in July 1982. It should have opened in February but due to a fire in the basement, this was put back a few months for trhe repairs and clean up operation.
