This clip was done this morning down at the Yacht Club, it is indeed sad to watch such a fine building fall without grace...... the elements eating away at her..... Robert Bruce once commented that if this building would be worth about 2 million if it was plonked down at a yacht pond in the UK.........  surely somebody can find a use for this once popular institution?

there ain't no sound to the clip

(The format for these clips is in Mpeg4, Divx/Xvid, for those of you who can't get the clips to play, ensure you have the following codecs installed!) I Use VLC Player , it plays alles!

To all you concerned citizens
Fear not for the Yacht Club club house will be repaired albeit not occupied by the CYC of better days past. The building has been requested by OTMCo for reutilising. How can we refuse their request if we can not utilise it to its potential?
Yes, sad as it is... the Cormorant Yacht Club is one of the sporting institutions that has succumbed to the strains of a moving population, a change in social behaviours / interests and finally the ripple effects of the recession.
The 'minimal' population of Omund see the place and feel pity about its current state. The misfortune is the financial burden of keeping water in that pan. Due to its height above mean MSL the water has to be pumped in continuously at an astronomical cost (remember Eskom just upped their tarrifs by 24% last week).
Nobody around Omund has the kind of money needed to continue the past practice of pumping nor the capital required to dredge the pond to make it sustainable in terms of a sailable water mass. Last calcs done in 2005/6 to dredge a pond of 800m x 300m by 2m deep would cost around N$3million/year for a estimated minimum of 3 years operation. Anybody got 9+ million to spare?
That alternative was to sail on the river... mmh. Not much water left there, just sandbanks everywhere. Sure, the more able sailors could make quite an event of sailing around all the "islands". The bigger challenge is where can you teach children and adults alike to sail in safety?
I wish there was a suitable mas of water.
Some of the worked out areas in MA1 have definitely caught my attention and have been daydreamed about as new locations for the Yacht Club... but hey, what are the chances. I heard someone suggest the other day the way the old crayfish pondok used to work, with equipment in the mining area that just stayed there, folk came in utilised it and when done the gear was left there.

The grey matter is itching...
All things electrical contain smoke. Making it come out is easy; getting it back in? ... yeah right!!!

Wont they sell the building to someone from "outside" ?

Andrew Darné

Why...? do you wanna buy it?

Just a thought... there have been so many ex Omunders expressing their sorrow about the demise of the CYC and having so much to say about what should be done to revive it... WHere are all you guys when we need interested bodies to adorn the grassy banks and man the bridge and skipper a dinghy or 10, just so that we can have people who want to sail.
Pack up allyour stresses of the outside world and take early retirement in Omund.... We could do with a few investors too...

Ahoy...!

Looking rather tatty at the mo but basic reapirs due shortly...

Will miss your visit; I'm in CT that week.
Have a look around, at the potential too. Consider an offer and I'll see what we can do about a deal... perhaps we can offer you a house in the town too...
