Hey John, yes you refreshed my mind here now. Oppie Opperman and Jack Mcbride. Yes Jack was the Chargehand. I also remember Ginger Olivier working in Town Electric. I worked with him and Don Wilson there under Gunther Machts. It was all part of the 1st year apprenticeship, first Town Electrical and Power Station then over to the Plants.

Then you were drinking with the spooks Mike :)  Paul's referring to my dad Ginger who he worked with at power station / town electric........the toots you had at the lodge recently was with my uncle, Ginger v/d Weshuizen............all good :)

To all the kids, cousins, etc. in our extended family when we were growing up, the two Ginger's were known as Tiny Ging (v/d Weshuizen) and Big Ging (my dad) - my cousin Jason Gavin nicknamed them that when he was little 'cos he was always getting confused which Ginger people were referring to and the names stuck even with the family adults.

Hi Delia, you are correct. I was referring to your late dad. I used to serve in the church with your dad as well. My folks were good friends with your folks those days as I can remember. Go well and have a great weekend.

A great weekend to you too Pepe........so awsum to see posts from people who remember my dad, i was very young (13) when he died and my memories of him are very fragmented.  Through the odd posting on this website where he's mentioned, happy memories of him are being triggered which my grief at that time must've covered up and buried so long ago.  Time, the great healer of all adversity.........

Sorry to burst your bubble Mike........then again, after that magical mystical dop that always tips us over the edge into who knows where, how do we know we not?.......always good to keep the mysteries of life alive.

Some people I've known in my party animal days (4 in the morning dregs-of-the-party-left trying to converse intelligently) could've well passed for a spook in looks......& other things sorriso2

cheers

Yes Delia, I remember your dad very well. He was a great person with a soft heart. Always willing to serve and help others. I remember you too but as you say, you were very young then. You had a brother as well if I can remember? Anyway, Blessings and have a great weekend.

H Pepe, yes, there are 3 of us kids in the family - a brother Lance (oldest), a sister Linda then me the youngest.  We all live in CT and see each other regularly, often getting together at Ursula & Ginger's for family braais.  I remember your name too from O'mund days. Stay well and once again.......have a superific weekend :)

Just incase there is some confusion on who I am refering to when I say Ginger-----It was Ginger Olivier I took over from at the Power Station----He was a fellow Brother at Optima Lodge a great guy who very reluctantly had to move to Town Electric for health reasons-----I knew him very well and his wife worked in the Main Office if I remember correctly-----It was a shock to me when I heard of his passing only four years after I left.

Any body know when the power stations where build the one in Town and the other one just north of 2 plant M172 Power station - my reason behind this request is I would like to try and get the age of our single pole HT lines in the mine surly the original poles must be 50 yrs +
Some of the new lines that where build (double poles) tie in to the old lines that ran from Town to 4 plant out again up to Uubvley and again to M172 and again to 1 plant some of these poles that haven't blow over yet are still originals (dry and white no tar or oil left in them)

Hi John - yes, that's my dad, Ginger Olivier, my mom Stephanie worked as the AGM's secretary for many years after moving on up from the Typing Pool in the early days.  She was still working as the AGM's secretary when she retired from CDM in 1989 and can you believe it, she's still working away at the age of 75.

Regards,
Delia
