Thx for the pics Mike, yes it does look good compared to the old wooden ones that were there. Eish but things have changed there, I don't think I will recognise OM today.

And these particular shelters also have electric lights and electrical power outlets... Come the first hot weekend of Spring, and me and the family are down there for a lekker braai, a couple of beers and a mini hifi for some noise pollution... all the work of the Rotary I believe..

I heard yesterday that the shelters have been painted with an oil based paint and therefore no more coal graffitti - this from somebody who tried! 
I wonder how long the playground will last, if the young adults can't play on it, they destroy it!

Good point about the graffitti... how many times have the shelters been painted since they were erected? I can recall about 4.

I also recall a certain Chris Erasmus who was on standby for the dredge over christams and new year.
He took his boys down to the beach a week before with the venter trailer and set up their tent and got them to prepare a huge area around the first shelter as you turn off the tar road. They raked the area for broken glass, cigarette butts, stones and foot-jabber sticks in preparation for the big camp site. All the necessary wind breaks were erected, ground sheets laid out and pegged down, tents pitched and when Chris knocked off from work the site was ready. Armed with pager and hand radio he and his family spent the festive season at the seaside in style with a hard roof kitchen and wood fired cooking area.
