The Big Blue Metallic Bus in the 70's

Remember that big blue metallic bus with the red seats that was did the routes in the 70's, the enging was at the back of the bus, under the back seats, huge exhaust vent on the sides of the bus,,,, for some reason I like that bus, if I'm not mistaken , the engine caught fire and the bus was scrapped behind town garage...

and who remembers the touring bus with the bar in the back?   ;D

They  were  Mercedes  Benz  busses ..  for then  top  of  the  range ..   ..CDM  could  afford  them  then   ..   Efficient turbodiesel  engine  ... air  suspension  ,  automatic  transmission    airconditioning   etc .. ..  they  also  had  one  of them  for  the  Luderitz  tour   ..   A  bus  with a  bar  in  the  back ??  was  that  not  the  same  one  that  went  to Luderitz ??

The bar in the back was a hockey/cricket and other sports clubs tradition.  A few of the last rows were taken out and a travelling bar cum lie dice, cum gambling, cum talking crap area was set up.  To this day I have never seem so much alcohol consumed in a trip!

the bus was also used to take school and intersted people to the farm to see the animals.

I arrived in Luderitz in 1967 by train,the next day we boarded one of those busses for the trip to Omund,they were top flight in those days.

Agree Mike , memory loss .. because of red juice  ? eg  , take me as an example -  I do not remember Diana as a bus driver  .
