One the way back from the beach this fine morning, I noticed that the salt pan, behind the T Junction, in the dunes, was sparkling under the desert sun, on closer inspection, I realised that it was not the salt that was sparkling, but water.....lots of it, fresh water..... I rushed home, offloaded Pop's and the dogs, picked up my camera and Kelvin and I headed back out to the desert....

Turns out one of the main feeders into town, had burst (need I say again!), and a stream had flowed downhill into the salt pan.....

Some sightseers were already out there with their dog's galloping through the spectacle.....

Then some "powers that be" turned up...... muttering, the chap in position and I had a quick informal discussion on how on earth could the town be proclaimed, when everyone is fully aware of the fact that the water reticulation in the town is a complete and expensive mess..... NO FUTURE MUNICIPALITY HAS ANY CHANCE OF STAYING SOLVENT , under these circumstance.... only fools would push for proclamation under such conditions.... I am not against proclamation, but there is only one way and one chance to do this..... and the way it is being currently pushed, is the wrong way.....

Becoming a regular occurence, just like Peter Bews and Milo Pudar told us 5 years ago.... the pipes are bursting....

Today;s pipes are situated along first avenue.... and the entire block is without water.... The 2nd bust pipe is up near the Abattoir Park.... I believe a large section of the park is currently under water......

Money needs to be put into this town fast..... It was nice to see in the latest NAMDEB Excited journal about all the kind donations the company is making to the various schools and institutions throughout Namibia, but like somebody mentioned to me yesterday, What about us here in Oranjemund? After all charity begins at home.... The Parks also need upgrading , there are sections of the grass at the entrance to town that are turning into sandpits due to lack of water, years of investing in this town are going down the tubes.... so I urge the company to look closer to home next time they want to hand out dosh!

Just my 2 cents...

You know Namdeb have to keep up their "shiney" appearance. By all cost the "outside" should NOT know in what sorry state we find ourselves. Heard a nice term for it.

I believe the resident  down on first and Aloe drive are still without water 36 hours already...... people are really upset...... Somebody was commenting about how the folk that control the booster pumps are operating them incorrectly and the pressure is way too much causing new pipes to burst.... They were commenting how Mile Pudar went beserk when those pumps stopped, priority .... the folk look after the reticulation are not up to scratch........ it's high time that somebody up there started looking back at the competency of these contractors doing the town side of things... they are costing the company money.....

Here is another awesome snap of one of the burst pipes that was sent in by another concerned resident of Oranjemund...... got to admit, it looks awesome..... Still wondering when some knob is going to follow up on this fiasco..... Mile Pudar should come back and consult.....   image201
