Part of my daily labours are spent out on 8th avenue resting against the poles between the Squash courts and the old Cinema. Off course this is to supervise the off loading of lorries for the receiving side of Spar,

What I noticed, besides bars rotting in the sun......

The big empty mine buses that zoom up 8th avenue throughout the day..... well, I lie, they ain't empty, there shall be a driver and the odd single passenger..... sure at 16h30 and 17h00 there are an extra 10 people, but please pray tell, why is the mine still using these huge gas guzzlers to roam the streets for the convenience of 1 passenger?

Just my 2 cents worth....

I think you should ask the MUN that question. As far as I know, they wanted to suspend all busses in town. The MUN, in keeping their good form, blocked the proposal.

They should run the big busses at peak times and small busses off-peak times.
Morning big busses and afternoons big busses general starting time and finishing times for majority of employees the rest of the day small buss

Stevie

Thats what they do do currently . That big bus might come down with one person as the majority get off at the bus stop by the bed sitters as they stay in single accomodation and dont have cars .  When its on the return leg passing  flamingos and hostel bus stop it loads between  15 - 20 people . Drive with the bus and see for yourself .

If that ia the case, then why not have that big bus terminate it's journey at the Bedsitters... still no point in a big bus driving all over town for one worker.....

Its easy to want to stop the busses in town if you have a car , unfortunately not everybody in Namdeb is lucky enough to have a car or get a car allowance . If you want to be fair across the board , stop  the busses in town and at the same time stop/cut car allowances . The big bus should come down to  the hostel and back up to the mine , while the quantums /Iveco s can drive the town route . Dont be quick to comment about the big bus while there are so many  white omatemba / namdeb vehicles going up and down in the streets off Oranjemund .

This is the problem with Africa. Everything has to be put out on a silver platter of the OPPRESSED MAJOURITY. If you go to any other world country, or any other town outside Oranjemund, you will see people using the mass transit system. (That you pay for, nothing for free in the real world.) People that grew up in Oranjemund or worked here for the most of their lives don't know how good they had it here all along.

Why not stop being the problem and be part of the solution. When someone says the word Africa, I got this sorry picture of a dying black kid. (Begging hands, snot nose and grey with dust.)

Forget the manager's car allowance. What can YOU do to help?
Why not quit you job, buy a bus and take over the transport for NAMDEB – town side.

Go to management and work out a contract.
You transport the people and NAMDEB pay you for instance.

You are guaranteed more money that you earn now.
Namdeb can get rid of the busses, drivers, maintenance, safety risk........
The company can do with cost-savings like this.

This MAJOURITY that has no car in Oranjemund has a long shiny BMW up north. He doesn't need it here, because of the silver platter....

My 2 cents worth....

Well put Charles... Car allowances are part of the attraction and retention package not to get people from A to B. Take away the allowance, you become less attractive to talent and the company is worse off... Take away or reduce the bus service and you wont have people saying: "Namdeb, nah I wont work for them, they don't give free bus rides anymore"
