Just to let you old timers know that we now have about 23 Taxi's zipping all over town, mind you the word Zip seems a bit too fast for this lot, more like 11km/hr in a 60km/hr zone...

somehow never thought I'd see the day when we'd have Taxi's in town.....

Mike one of my greatest pleasures in Oranjemund was catching a Taxi.

Let me explain, you know the speed they travel, ( 10-11 Km/Hr) Crusing, well,  it initally used to pee me off no end. Until I realised my old Lanrover could go slower.

Now catching a Taxi for me & my daughters usually consisted of seeing one coming up behind me, I would deliberatly reduce speed to 5-7Km/hr (snail pace) and watch them get frustrated, until they wanted to overtake, when I would speed up slightly until they tucked in behind me & I could go slow again & repeat the process.

Clive, you ain't the only person who enjoys doing that! I also enjoy doing that, the only problemn is it does not seem to wind up the taxi drivers behind us, as it does us when we are behind them.... Africa!

The other thing being, that if you look at the map of Omund from the air, it's the size of a giant parking lot anyhow, so who really needs to go at Mach 2 down 5th ave.....

Dont forget Gert Schreuder & what he did to my bike, Ask Gert and see the sheepish look he gives you

Michael Alexander

Gert retired about 3 months ago to Port Alfred, his step daughter Shola works at Spar with me, I'll ask her.... hehehehe!

It's actually amazing on a payday friday how I lie in bed after 11h00 and listen to those guys screeching round the town, Imagine big Dirk and Bossie were still patrolling the streets in their fast cars, ( or should I say Mini), remember the little black and white police mini?

You are always certain to see an accident or a pole knocked over on a Payday weekend!

Would be nice to have Bossie on line, bet he would have some good stories, anyone know where he is

Nicky Hodge

I can remember Bossie in the days when he used to drive a white VW Beetle, with a blue light on the roof. He caught Freddie Ahrens and I, just after Fred had been given a 50 CC for his birthday. I was on the back, and for some unknown reason, he decided to go for a ride through the centre of town. This was very bad timing, as 'Big Bad Bossie' was coming the other way. Freddie tried to avoid him by pulling into the cinema parking bay area, but alas, we had already been spotted. I had no helmet on either, so decided to hotfoot it the hell outta there. I can remember hiding amongst the palms / trees at the rec club until dark I think. I eventually went home, and received a phone call that we had to go to the cop shop on the Monday morning. One can only hide for so long in a small town like O/mund. He He. Freddie's Mom sorted him out on that Monday, while we sat "kakking" ourselves in her car.
I think the list of offences were as follows :

1.Operating a motorbike without a driving  license.
2.Carrying a pillion passenger on a 50cc
3.Pulling into a one way
4.No helmet
5.(Can't remember if the bike was registered)

Got nabbed twice by Bossie, once at 02.30 in the morning taking a short cut and once collecting the mail from the post box (I rode the bike right up to the post box got the mail without getting off an rode off jumping the step)

Got collared once by the AGM when I was 16 for "speeding in Town" he asked me if I knew who he was and told me to be in his office by 16.00.  Had to tell him I had no idea whose office that was. You can imagine his reaction any way I got served tea while I had to read all the complaints residents had sent him regarding our 49cc bikes. He then gave me a stern warning and that was it.
on the upside at least I then knew who the moaners were.

Nicky! , I just spoke with Freddie in the shop, I recounted the story to him, he looked kinda sheepish and reckoned he got a fine of R75.00 back then, Apparently Big Dirk played the whole thing down....

only freddie!
