did people plant trees in Luderitz. it looks quite barren from the air - 1970

Pretty barren still.... I was told that the soil is either rock or to soft for tree's to take root...

Diaz Cross from a painting 1487 . 2 Diaz cross 1980 - before the fog horn was blown away by a severe Atlantic storm , 3 . early picture Diaz cross . note there is no hand railing . 4. The old cemetry . most people burried here died in the two influensa epidemics - 1903 + 1905
5 . A plnt we called "desert beads.  I do not know the correct name for it . Some botanist can come to the rescue .
