This photograph of Apollo 9's Commander Dave Scott was taken by astronaut Russell Schweickar on 6th March 1969 from the porch of the Lunar Module.

This was the third manned Apollo mission but the first to go up with to test "...all aspects of the Lunar Module in Earth orbit, including operation of the LM as an independent self-sufficient spacecraft and performance of docking and rendezvous manoeuvre."

The objective being to simulate docking, undocking, flight and any other manoeuvres necessary to be performed during lunar missions.
