All things electrical contain smoke. Making it come out is easy; getting it back in? ... yeah right!!!

I read somewhere yesterday that in the UK it costs now on average about the equivalent of R1000 to fill up your sedan type car......

Yes Mike , you are correct. Price for fuel here in the UK is "bloody astronomical!"
There is a price war between all the large shopping centers at the moment so we can get a litre of diesel for £1.40 which at todays exchange rate (ive just checked) is (SA rands) R18.456 per litre. Before the price war we were paying £1.475 ish per litre. My car takes 90 litres to fill up, (I know, not your average size). So at B4 price war it was costing me R1750 to fill my tank. At the moment it is costing me R1661 to fill up. "Bloody madness" . How long the price wars are going to go on is anybodys guess. Point I must make though, My car, If driven "properly" will give me round about 1200 Klicks per tank.
Another point I must make is that the bloody government over here is taking a whopping 84 pence per litre in tax. Thats R11.07 per litre, or in my case R996.3 per tankfull in frigging taxes.

If the government did not poke its "extremely sticky" finger in the pie. I would only be paying R665 per tankfull.
They say the UK has just entered another recession. Im not bloody surprised. It does not take a lot of the old "grey stuff" to work out that if you put the price of fuel up then surely everything,,,, and I mean everything follows suit. Instead of the British government handing out billions in foreign aid and indeed to the lazy bas&*ds who go on the dole here. Stop taxing fuel so much would surely help the economy achieve a bit of growth.
Anyway,,,,,This all started with the price of petrol but I seem to have got carried away "a teeny little bit" cat1.gif

May I say what a fantastic site you have created here Mike,,,,Well done. Only wished I had discovered it years ago.

Any chance of a photo of 1-11th avenue. Thats where we 1st lived when we moved to Oranjemund. We then moved out to the old piggeries when they built new houses there. Cant for the life of me think of the name of the road. All I know is that it was just down the road from the Bakers, (Aubrey, Pearl, Julian and Edwina).

What has happened to Paula Willson? she seems to have dropped of the radar. I only found out about this site when she or Jackie said something on Facebook.

Thanks for a great site, Mike. New-year3

PS: I see Sandy B is going great guns with that restaurant of his. Well done him. (I dont think he will remember me as he was a few years older).
