NORTH BANK ROAD

All employees and the general public are informed that the temporary arrangement of the North Bank Road of 24 hours operation, will stop on Wednesday 6 February, 2013 in the evening. As a result the operating hours of the gate and the access to the road will revert back to the arrangement prior to the 23rd of December 2012. In other words, the gate will only be opened for public access from 06h00 (morning) – 18h00 (evening) daily. It is unfortunately that the present arrangement is not sustainable as the Namibian Police are not in a position to continue assisting with the manning and administration of the Sendelingsdrif gate as per the agreement reached in December 2012. As result Namdeb Security department will temporary take over from Nampol until such a time that, all relevant stakeholders are able to assume these responsibilities.

Employees and the community in general are assured that the trial period will resume as soon as additional resources becomes available. On behalf of the various stakeholders involved in this arrangement, apologies are extended for any inconvenience these changes may cause.

As some of you know, the North Bank Road was proclaimed, the gov took over the road and promptly stopped heavy trucks from using the road. The road is also maintained in a cheaper and inferior manner than what the mine had been doing,  the results are...

1) Less people are driving on the road as the quality has deteriorated to such an extent that tyres are being lost left right and centre.

2) SARS on the South African border post want to close the border for business due to large transport trucks no longer using the north bank road to service the towns in southern Namibia. For those of you that are interested in attending an important meeting to air your views, read below....

"Good Day,

The weekly Coke to Oranjemund was turned back at the Sendelingsdrift gate, due to the fact that the lorry is too heavy for the state run road.... so the lorry went back to KHP, offloaded, loaded a small truck and drove back to Omund this fine morning, busy offloading, then will head back to KHP , reload....and back again tomorrow, talk about efficiency , one days work has now become three days slog.....
