The Magic Carpet Ride comes to an end!

At a weekend function, the topic of debate circled  around the fact that the mine will no longer be carpeting their mine houses.

I see over the years, a number of folk have actually chosen to remove the carpets and have the nice wooden floors beneath them sanded and varnished..... this is done for a number of reasons, easier to maintain, no sand fleas in the house, cheaper..... you also get to slip and slide down your hallway if you own the correct type of mat..... the other pro, you get to play mini 10 pin bowling....

On the other hand, I hear some company citizens are not too impressed, some knob types are still getting carpets, yet they must go without.....

Not my fight, I personally would prefer the wooden floors, anyone know what type of wood those floors are made from?

I think in the old days it was pine flooring

It was the cheapest radiata pine flooring that Rumble (the building contractor who had a monopoly to build housing for CDM) could buy.

Not too shabby, only a month on and we are graced with an official confirmation on the matter... this appeared in today's minewide....

"From 1 January 2013, carpets will no longer be installed in accommodation units.  Carpets that are reported will be inspected and if due for replacement, the floors will be sanded and sealed, in the case of wooden floors and tiled, in the case of cement floors.
Occupants are reminded that it is their responsibility to keep the accommodation unit in a good state of repair and for carpets this means regular vacuuming and washing.  Carpets that have been neglected by the occupant, i.e. not vacuumed, not washed, messed on by animals, burned with cloth irons, torn, etc. will be removed at the cost of the occupant."
