I did'nt know if I should laugh or cry!

Back in the day, yes, I know I keep harping about back in the day, but that was when things had structure and worked properly, an era of accountability..... A time when the company health department would fumigate the dumps on a regular cycle to prevent the flies from breeding and spreading sickness's and diseases...... A few years back, this ritual was stopped and the flies multiplied....

Over the last two summer seasons the entire town felt like it was part of the Australian outback..... flies everywhere....

Not sure who is responsible for doing this trick, but it is a complete and utter waste of money, At designated lamposts around the town, one can see Redtop Flytraps attached to the poles...... in a way, a novel idea..... but they have not been filled up to the designated halfway mark to help start the rotting process of the bait...... in fact they have only got a splash of water at the bottom of them, and due to evaporation, in the next 4 days, they will be nothing but an eyesore with dried out bait at the base...

How difficult can it be to install such traps according to the supplied instructions.... What a laugh! Do it properly or don't do it at all.....

Wonder how much this idea is costing somebody!

Below is how it should look in the real world....

Not trying to be wise here, but we had a spell of very hot days. Could be that the water evaporated and was never topped up. Like all things in town maintenance is a word not known. Got a trap in my garden and sure as hell it's keeping the flies out of my house.

Charles, the one that was put up opposite my house were completely empty, the guys just shrugged when i asked them  ....not their problem to fill it up with bait...

It is nice to see that the "empty" flytraps have now been refilled with water and within the next ten days we should start seeing the results.....

The town is covered with flytraps and it was re-assuring that the contracting company is still driving around today, putting up more traps....

allgood

To save money, one can cut off the top part of a plastic coke bottle (where it starts to taper to the top) and then invert it (without the cap) into the now open coke bottle, joining it by stapling . Pour your warm water halfway and piece of raw boerewors/dog poo/chicken/fish etc in the bottom ... flies will come down the inverted cone and die inside the bottle because they fly up the sides, not the open cap. Some will get out through the open cap but will return and not know how to get out.

You can add wire to hang the traps in trees.

So if you get 20 people to each do ten traps, you will soon have 200 times 1 litre of dead flies.

Better still, place these traps near your worst neighbours, and the flies will go from your house to theirs.

Michael Alexander

Not sure if it is seasonal, but the flies are most definitely decreasing in town....

Noted that the fly traps are filling up with the little beasts, so it is working!

Kudo's to whoever came up with the plan!
bravo
