somewhere they lost sight of the lighthouse.....

Words well  put Mike  .. and  yes  there  are  a  lot  of  decent  folk  out  there , problem  is  some  are  to scared to  even try  be  decent .. I read the  article  in  the Sunday  times  on  the  FERAL KIDS  as  they  are  called  in UK ,  frightening  stuff ..   but they are  no  different  to  the  skollies  that  terrorise  people  in  the  townships  in SA ...  and  yes  sterner  measures  are  required .. loony  left  soft  thinking  has  done  nothing  but   create  a  breeding  ground  for  anarchy ... I am not  advocating  victorian  discipline  just  a  return  to  a  value  based  system , where  you  knew   what  was  right  or  wrong   and  if  you  were  doing  wrong  and took  the  chance  and    then accepted  what  would  happen  to  you  if  you  were  caught .. dont  we  all  remeber that  all  too  well ??

The same article refers to the blame for those UK Yobs is put squarely on the fact of Bad parenting..... When I saw that article, it made me realise that the world has problems no matter where you live.... make the best off what you have... and I doubt if we will ever see a strong leader like Mandela in our lifes ever again....

You know what irks me though... is in the 1st world , when these politicians get caught, they lose their jobs, in Africa, they just stay there, even get a bonus...and don't even get me started on the Tony Yengeni story, with that in Mind you gotta love Zapiro......

ja, ja ja okay, I agree with SAndy, but then penalty by death - in this fair and just world were we concern ourselves with human rights we have created this unmanageable colundrum.

Scientifically they can prove that death penalties do not decrease crime, I believe what we need is to recreate the strong sense of community, extended family and smaller towns.  This world of anonymous living where we bury our heads and blame the elected members is not getting us anywhere. the skollies/yobs/chav's/whatever you want to call them have gained the power and are protected by communities instead of being brought to justice.
Done with intimidation instead of respect.
Did our communities run on fear before, a little I think, fear of embarresment at being caught, fear of punishment, fear of fall from social grace, fear of the church.

Okay so the world is  anew place to the one we grew up in, but all is not lost, we as parents are responsible for ensuring that our children have strong moral values. The value lost here in the UK is good work ethics, why work when you can earn more on benefits than the minimum wage being offered for unskilled labor.  Why indeed, and with parents and grandparents who have this mind set as role models, why should they the kids know any different.

I have hope and it grows as I spend time talking my my young son and his friends, they are sensible youngsters who see thro the haze created by the mass propaganda and bullshit spun by the spin doctors of political persuasion.

Every country has a socio economic reason for creating the crisis we read about in our papers, all different and all the same at the same time. Agh for the influence that people like Madeba would have once had over youngsters like Thabo, all lost and we need to relearn and get on with this business.  All this advancement and I use this term tongue in cheek, that we fought for by burning our bra's, reading illegal political analysis, watching porn, fighting for the right to watch telly etc all contributed to this crazy world were our thoughts are controlled by editors who are paid by politicians who are funded by who knows who.
Oh head pain this is too hectic to do by typing, I need to be face to face.

I practise it in  workplace , one of my  spheres of influence ,  staff meetings  ..values ,  questions .. who  are  you , what  are you , tell  me  more  about  the  you ?/ do  you  have  a  sense of  future ? Why do people do and condone wrong ??  do  you  know your potential ... listeneing  to  me  is not  going  to make you  more  wealthy  but it  can give  you  a  sense of  self  worth , allow  you to  structure your  life better  and allow  you  to  be  the  best that  you  can  be  under  the  circumstances .. I  relate personal experience ...  encourage them to  relate theirs and their feelings  If you can improve your life then you can improve anything  within  your direct  control .. all  this carefully woven in  with the  work  related  issues..  So far my  reward is one  of  the  lowest reject and customer complaint   rates , lowest absenteeism , a good  team  spirit etc .. makes  my  job ultimately  easier ..
In  our  street most of us know  each  other , wwe hold the odd  neighbours braai in  the  back lane , we  watch  out  for  each  other ..  we  take  care  of  each  other , we have  each others cell #'s  to  report  anyy suspicious goings on .. we  either  ask  suspicious looking  characters  if  we  can  help  them " excuse  me are  you  looking for  somebody ? " or  sometimes  we just  quietly  buzz them  our of  the  street ,,  climb in  yur  car   and  just  kep  on  driving up and down  and  whn  they leave  the  street  then  follow  them a  bit  more .. surprising  how  they  start  moving  ... crime rate  in  street  ? low considering  its  Woodstock ...  Yes  Barb  its  one  of  the  many  prongs  of  attacking  the  cancer  ..  some  schools  now  are  bringing  parents back  into  the  equation  getting  them  more  involved  again ..  I  always  try  to  see hope .. not  easy , but  if  we dont  ???

finished my  work catch- up ( yes I find my mind more creative after hours so take some  work home  sometimes ) and my bit of internet surfing ..  I  scrolled  through my  file of   quotes  ...

First  one  this  is  for  the  politicians

The spirit of service.

A great leader is usually a humble one and a great service provider is one who listens and responds. The wise leader asks the customer what is good service and the wise service provider gives it before it is asked for
.

The  next  one  is  for  us  all ...

To put the world right in order,
We must first put the nation in order;
To put the nation in order,
We must first put the family in order;
To put the family in order,
We must first cultivate our personal life;
We must first set our hearts right.

-- Confucius --

And  the  next  one  is  for  us all  when  we  get  up  tomorrow  morning ...........Always  count  to  ten ........

Sometimes when I get up in the morning, I feel very peculiar. I feel like I've just got to bite a cat! I feel like if I don't bite a cat before sundown, I'll go crazy! But then I just take a deep breath and forget about it. That's what is known as real maturity.
