Sandles,  what happened to your Zimmerframe?

Michael Alexander

I did'nt see a Zimmerframe in any of Richard's photo's and could you be accusing Richard of "doctoring" his photo's, kinda enlarging them a bit?    ;)  ;D

Hey Sandy,

Sorry, been away from the forum for a bit (it happens whenever I go on leave for a couple of weeks then come back to a mountain of work)....

Well, when last in Cape Town, my wife went of to pay her Auntie Ethel (Bernie's wife) a visit with her mom. In Ethel's kitchen, high on the cupboards (just below ceiling hight) she has one of those ornamental 'platic fruit in a basket' type things. So the conversation revolved around to Bernie and how Ethel was coping when suddenly this basket flew off the shelf. Melanie said that it didn't just kind of drop off as it hit the floor quite some distance from the shelf. Ethel, without missing a beat in the conversation, just got up and put it back. When Melanie asked if that wasn't 'a bit wierd' Ethel said that that sort of thing had been happening quite a bit since Bernie passed and that they (Ethel and Melanies Gran - who stays with Ethel) had gotten quite used to it by now.

Interesting enough, a week or two bwefore he died Bernie told Ethel that he'd seen his late mother in the passage of the house when he got up to take a leak late one night - just standing there looking at him -  a welcome party perhaps.

Also, in recent months, Melanies mom came from Hopefield to pay us a visit, one afternoon while sitting in my daughters room chatting, a portrait just dropped off the wall for no apparent reason, it had been hanging up there for over a year, so that was wierd, then later while they were talking the room and everything around them went dead quiet... like really quite (this is in the afternoon sometime between 14:00 and 16:00), Melanie commented on how deathly quiet it had just gotten when one of my daughters bookshelf fell to the floor, books and all also for no aparent reason..

Thanks  Paul   for the Bernie  Holmes  story  ..  I  knew  Ethel  well when  she  was  at  No 4  plant   in  the  70's   ( always the  broad  smile )   and  Bernie  as  well  started  off  as  a trainee  manager at the  shopping  center , so  worked  with  my  Mom  .. then  moved  into  mining ..  ..  most  interesting  story   but  like  I  say nothing  scary  for  me ..  .. I have raided  the wine  cellar  a  few  more  times  and  have  at least not  had  candle  stick flying  again  ..  as you  must have read  in my  posting  it  was  to  me  quite a  hilarious  happening  cos  I  was  regularly  in the  dogbox  for  raiding  the wine  cellar  while  John  was  alive  ..    nothing  changed  on that  day and all  we  wanted to  do was have a good  send  off ...

Yes   Georg  .. Naughty  boy !   funny  I  used  to  collect wine  years  ago  in O'mund  and  my  brother  Gus  used  to  raid  my  cellar ...    maybe  its  a  family  thing ??
For  Michael   and  Paul  ..  well  I  heard  it  all !!  having  to  walk  as  there was  no  room  in the  car  cos  of  the  booze  and  musical instruments   .. and  even worse   you parents  being  the  perfect  delinquents   and raiding  the  booze  cupboard  before  you  even had  a chance   to ...
