Yea Georg jnr. Being fresh out of school, most young men entering into the working world haven't got a clue about where they fit into the organization.
For 12 years you are told what to do at school and at home, and you basically just go along with it or face the consequences. Now you enter the working enviroment and reality hits you like a ton of bricks. Suddenly there are new rules and regulations. Breaking the rules here often results in far worse consequences than a hiding from your Dad or detention at school. Colleagues are usually much older than you and have wives and families already. Some come from different social and ethnic backgrounds. Being taught from the start where you fit in helps a lot in determining what kind of an artisan you are going to become one day. You basically get two types: The one who does the absolute minimum of what's required of him and lives from paycheck to paycheck with no ambition in life. Then you get the one who continuously strives to improve his skills and lifestyle, and goes the extra mile to ensure a pleasant working enviroment for him and his co-workers.

There is a posting from your Dad on the forum, where he mentions how the appies made fun of him behind his back for being so strict and authoritive. I bet those appies turned out to become top notch artisans in the end.

I grew up with this guy in my back. There may be several things I still don't like about how he sees things and goes about them. But my oldman never used military drill. It's just a matter of expecting somebody to feel responsable about what he's doing or not doing. So there's a big difference to me.

good thing you never went into the military, you would have had a really hard time.  ( bad attitude they would have called it. )

Do you remember the scene in "The Wall" bei Pink Floyed as the kids all got minced up? Well, I think what they were trying to say in the story was, that drilling kids and wanting them to "fit" into society is like robbing their identety. It's just like having a big lump of minced meat instead of individuals.
Give a person a chance to find out who he is and that it's okay that way and he'll want to be part of society.
If you try to force him into society, he'll want to break out. I think that's what Michael was saying earlier on. Why should he cook coffee if he doesn't even drink any. It's just a game people tend to plao show you the power they have over you. Honest. Now what does an appi learn in a case like this? He learns how to use power. Does this make an artisan out of him?

Whats with all the smileys,the military style that Carl is refering to was done as a tradition and as Michael refered to his coffee incident,could not be forced upon them as in the army. Thats the end of my 10 cents worth.

King Crimson (Robert Fripp ect) In The Wake of Poseidon. Fantastic music, even if the recordings of those days can't match with today. This was real handmade music.

I'm not the kind of girl who is into chick flicks - for me I love the movies 'SAW' and 'Hostel' - not even horror films where make believe beasts jump up and try and scare you - Ha! I laugh in their face - for me the movie has to mess with your mind; so while watching it, you are a little on edge - but when it finishes, the scenes play over and over in your head; something that could actually happen in real life - in your worst nightmare!!!.........Any one else into those kind of films? I can recomend ''The Descent'' if your see it in the local rental shop - pick it up...........

i still listen to the old music mostly.
