Petrol & Diesel Prices

The trick is to keep the diesel car for 3 years and then trade it in for another new one. Service intervals have recently improved to such an extent, that they match those of their petrol equivalents. My Polo has service intervals of 15000km which was unheard of a few years ago. Another plus point for diesels is that fuel companies have been forced to drastically lower the sulphur content of their diesel. Sulphur is the ultimate killer in any diesel engine.

While Michael is deciding on how to poison your steak Mike, let me add a quick 2c chirp. I think Michael was probably referring to commercial passenger vehicles manufactured in the last few years.  I know the older models were an absolute no-go when it came to services and overall running costs.

I bought my double cab diesel in 2002... demo model.... had 29 000km on the clock..... six years later it only has.... 79 000 km on the clock...... I drive it in Omund only twice a month 60km..... and twice a year to CPT.... oh and once to Bloem for the CC final..... the car goes like a boeing.... it was paid off almost 3 years ago..... so I ain't trading her... I worked out if I get another 2 years use outta her.... I will be in credit..... We use Michele's fiesta around town for kids, school etc...... I have been tempted to buy a new bakkie.... but it just does not make any fiscal sense..... anyhow...in 2010...the electric car will be here..... Wow! 80's flashback song...... Now there's an idea - the electric car.  Only problem is that you need electricity.  In Aus our electricity jumped 25% in January.  SA has got huge electricity problems.  So you might not be able to charge your car overnight . . . .

Question: will  there be enough electricity in 2010?

We at Spar just spent close to R500 000 on a new genset.... just in case, I'm gonna buy me aexcercise cycling bike and rig the thing up with a dynamo and inverter and charge my electric car up with that.... the moment I get to buy this house from the mine.... I;m gonna go solar..... all the way.....

I use my feet in a pair of "Crocs".         I get good milage, about R400.00 per year.

We pay 1,50 Euro for Diesel and petrol at the moment! We payed only half the amount in the mid 90s and thought that was expensive.

Very interesting to read the posts here about the prices of fuel.

I drive a diesel Land Rover Freelander2. Service intervals at 15,000 miles. But boy when they do a £200 oil change I swear at them. Workshops just look for revenue and do uneccessary work and hope they are dealing with an idiot who won't question the bill. I do question and I do inspect before accepting the keys back. I also ask for the parts they allege to have replaced!

UK is the highest taxed nation in EU I think. But it still does not stop Brown from ripping us off. Economists have worked out that he can reduce the duty on petrol which equates to 15p per liter and still rake in billions each day.

It's not "THAT" gas that I'm referring to jnr. Although it would probably work too if you were able to collect enough.
