Watching at home.  In theater from 7h30 am, struggling with wisdom teeth, then nice afternoon of rugby and of course a bit of meat on the coals and Namibian milk (beer).

By this time Bertie should be able to do this wisdom teeth procedure with eyes closed, so I don't think the patient would mind too much if they overstayed the theatre time and started watching the game while Bertie tries to bang out the bothering buggers.  Just wonder what the hospital sup would say when he finds and empty bottle or two of some giggel sous under the op table  -  Bertie gonna blame the gas man  -  "I dunno -  his job the keep the patient under, don't care how he does it."

Did anyone listen to the comment on RSG this morning about the Bok team?

Regarding the theater, no Dalene, the sisters there in theater are big and strong - wont take a chance like that.  Anyway, the floating gases in the op theater is enough, dont need any alcohol to potentiate the effect!

Call me unpatriotic if you will, but I cant see us beating Wales tomorrow. My prediction is a low scoring match, with Wales winning by a margin of less than 3 points.

No laughing gas in theater, it will be full general anaesthesia.  I warned the patients NOT to go watch the movie "AWAKE" before the weekend!
Regarding the rugby, hope you're wrong!

Did you see Carte Blanche last week? I think they'r trying to create a mountain out of a mole hill. Any anaesthatist would be able to detect if a patient has woken up a bit prematurely by seeing the rise in stress levels on the monitoring machines.

Yes, i did.  Quite scary, but you're right, it's easily detected if monitored correctly.  I had a patient once (on April fool's day 2006) with a similar problem.  He suffered from what we called "Scoline apnoea" - some people dont have the enzyme to break down the muscle relaxant which is given with the anaesthetic, so they wake up, but cant move a muscle!  This guy's blood pressure shot through the roof within seconds, was sweating profusely, and was definitely in distress.  We had to keep him sedated, for it took 6 hours to work out of the system in stead of the usual 30 minutes.  There's no antidote.  Thankfully he's ok, and all's well.  He thinks it was a joke, but believe me, I almost had a heart attack from stress myself!  Six months later, the parents phoned - to have his sister's wisdom teeth removed under GA.  I felt I could send them away!  She fortunately didn't have the same problem!

Regarding RSG this morning  - 

The comment was about what PDV had said about it now being the first time in the history of SA Rugby that fair justice is done by picking 8 players of colour and that this was the only way to show the rest of the world that our sports also represents the "balanced" proportions of race in the country  -  sort of regardless to wether the team should do good an win.  Round no. ?  in the political arena?
