How many of you have had eye laser surgery? And if so would you recommend it?

Both my mom and dad did.  Highly recommended if I go on the difference it made to them, although my mom still has to wear glasses. Yes glasses NOT magnifing glasses

Was it at the Eye Laser Clinic in Durbanville?

I think it was, as I remember my mom speaking of it being in Durbanville. Look I have no idea what they did just that it was lazer and the results were very good. My mom was half blind, she could start fires if the sun caught her old glasses.

Laser .. considering it ... dont know if it applies to me only needing reading glasses .. they a pain in the butt .. will follow up when i got time ...

Depending on the severity and condition it can make a big difference.  I also heard more success stories than failures.  So, if needed, I might consider it myself.  Get proper examination and opinion from qualified person to advise whether laser treatment is indicated in your specific case.

Michelle best thing you could do, My dearly beloved other half had it done due to retina detachment and cateraches (spelling!) and went from -8 to +1 best guy in Cape Town is James Acton ph number 0219489444. He is brilliant and works from Cape eye hospital. He saved Geraldine McKays eye sight too. Regards Skinny

Thank-you for the info! I phoned him but he only works on retina's, his secretary was able to give me 2 contact numbers of doctors performing lasik.

Michele had my eyes done about 11 years ago, used to wear glasses since I was 6. Yes you get my vote and it's not painfull

Sandy, I don't think it will be posible if you only use glasses for reading. I was totaly blind without my glasses, I remember missing the rugby ball at school on many occations

Yes, they wont just laser for anything.  I also only occasionally wear glasses, suffer from astigmatism (my lenses are oval in shape, so thin vertical lines blurs) and they told me my eyes are too good to be lasered.

Mine are prescription readers ...  distance is slightly down but still within acceptable  according to optician ... In fact i cannot wear the damm things when walking around .. its dangerous .. fine print is blurry .. My eyesight used to be good till about 3 years ago  could still read a telephone book  but noticedd it becoming difficult ..he said I was lucky to have kept reasonable sight for so long .. I think working on PC has a lot to do with deterioration .. ( cumulative effect ?? )

Yep Sandy, can only be the damn computer screens - can't possibly be because we're getting older!  I have reading glasses stashed all over the house!  202

Thanks guys! I am blind without my contacts, left eye is -4.5 and right eye is -3.5. First thing I have to do in the morning is "put my eyes in" and, like this morning when Shannon is opening presents and reading her cards, it would be nice to be able to just open my eyes and be able to see properly without having to hassle with contact solution! Also when the wind blows I'm always getting sand in my eyes which scratches the contact lenses.

I've got a couple contacts for eye doctors in Cape Town now - it's just being able to plan a suitable time!
