Beach Parties!

Long time since I've been to one, but I always enjoyed having or going to a beach party here, lotsa driftwood that you could pile up anywhere along the surfs edge, light it, play some music and drink and talk away into the night. Best done on an east wind evening, but beware of the mist! The mood was even better if somebody could play a guitar.

In some cases, you even pitch a tent up.......

Every new years eve, I always tell a few people to head down to the beach at about 16h00 for sundowners, we bring a draught machine with and people only leave when the beer is finished or it's time for them to head of to their designated New Year Party!

The beach event I remember best is the nice champagne breakfasts that the hospital staff organised every New Years morning after staying up all night after the New Years Eve dance at the rec club.
They would have these huge frying pans on the coals with a full breakfast cooking.
This was great while watching the sun rising bringing in the new year.

Yes, I seem to recall one time we camped at the beach on the sandbar between the river and the sea and someone packed up and disappeared home in the middle of the night. Now that I think back on it, they were probably the clever ones, it was really cold and miserable!

I also remember another time when we were supposed to row out to the island in the river and camp there - can't remember what we were supposed to row in though! Think we ended up camping on the beach again, wasn't that the time you borrowed Ken's tent Paul and it was quite a mission to put up.

That was'nt a Tent that Ken lent to Paul, that was a stock item from the Boswell Wilkie Circus!

Is that you admitting that you don't know much about tents?

You might be great operating a pc but who has to put the tent up and pack it up again?

Richard, I'm afraid not, the Yacht club used to have a few people turning up on the 1st for a brunch, everyone brought their own skottel and chow.... this stopped also a few years back... Nobody seems to want to organise an event anymore, then suddenly 2 days before new years eve one or 2 posters go up, the bowling club always has a bring and braai........

There is a massive street party in the middle of town, where the mine closes off the streets around the circle, braai drums are put out, but other than that nothing special, save for the odd firework going off here and there... my dad, Jock still sits there at 2 in the morning waiting for a few visitors.... which he still gets, the likes of Tom Parkhill and Jimmy Jones to name a few...
