I heard a story just now, can anyone verify this ?

"Namdeb   has  stopped  all production   due   to   the   economy . Will be   down  until 15th January 2009 at   least . Plants   must  just   run   their   stockpiles empty ."

Anyone know anything? Confirm?

I believe that these stockpiles are quite large and should take quite a while to work through!

So far nobody on the shop floor (customers from the mine seem to have heard anything about this!)

Heard the same kinda story from more than 1 source... don't wanna put my uknowwhat on the block for it though. Apparently the big dogs were having a bow wow about it this morning. Will keep them "ornaments" (as mom calls them) to the ground for any developments on that matter.

But hey Mike, I'm surprised how quickly you get to hear about $#!t in this place... who needs a town cryer or even the Daily Times late final edition... just ask Mike...! Sometimes the deeper stories may require a little remuneration in the form of a few (usually 6) of those tall green bottles of a slightly bitter, malty beverage.

Flies on the walls Mike, flies on the walls... keep it up, at least someone has the balls to share the news.
All things electrical contain smoke. Making it come out is easy; getting it back in? ... yeah right!!!

Flies on the walls . people with balls ... Mmm it all rhymes ..   never smoke without the fire .. but then .. me done enough damage control over the years in my company ... its a double edged sword ..   and then me  also at times contemplated some radical action ... ( wont go there )

@ Mike, I heard the same rumour.  Also heard that 28% of Namdeb staff will receive retrenchment letter at the end of this month.

Cynthia L

i heard about this yesterday - does anybody knows whats going on?  i scanned the news since but cant find any confirmation.  thank goodness i am now making water..........

Sheena

Apparently Namdeb staff were briefed on the retrenchments yesterday.

Florrie van Zyl (Muir)

I hope the rumours aren't true. Getting a retrenchment letter is bad enough but just before Xmas?

goodness me. Imagine being retrenched in OMD of all places. You'd have to relocate the whole family to the outside world and then start looking for work in some unfamiliar strange places. Very traumatic I would say. Perhaps you OMD folk need to wait for the official announcement in black and white on NAMDEB letterhead before panicing.

Leon Sumter

well I for one am not panicing since I am not employed by Namdeb, but there does seem to be an underlying tone of concern amongst you folk contributing to this thread, so yes possibly the word 'panicing' is too strong a word to use in this instance.
Continued peace and tranquility to you Alfred.

Agreed  Leon .. Alfred has the right attitude ...   what is to be .. is to be .. do your best  and look after your  mental and physical health ..  cos by worrying and fretting you erode it all and end up being of no use to yourself or others .. and then have  done self fullfillment of your percieved destiny ..
