Nope..... the diamonds used to make up 70% of the value of exports..... Namdeb/CDM used to the big boys on the block, but have been knowcked off the scale by Scorpion MIne (ZInc) in Rosh Pinah

I do agree that the road network is quite good, especially the dirt roads, which are always being maintained..... one dept that seems to work......

2030 goals.... unrealistic.........why?

Methinks also unrealistic, i see that as propaganda unless new Diamond fields are found.....

Hello to you all.

Have been reading through your post's since I found your site (have not read them all) and I hope you don't mind an outsider making comments.
I veiwed the video that george put up and yes its good propaganda and I like the bit with the beauty queen Its always a distraction.

I think Namibia has a very good start, according to the mines minister (Ericki Nhirintinj) gold copper uraniam lead 'etc' (think thats his name) you have other
commodities other than diamonds.

You also have the people (2.000.000) you have schools universitys hopitals and you have good roads your land mass is roughly 823.145 sq km.and education looks fair.

Realistically 2030 another twenty years from now.

I live in a part of Australia  the state of Queensland its 1.852.642 sq km has a population 4.000 000, I have lived here for twenty years and the changes are remarkable.

Its hard to belive that its happened over twenty years, the population has doubled the standard of living is great, citys 'etc' 'etc'

With modern technology and our dependancy on oil deminishing and your ideas Michael about Oranjemund, well in twenty years who knows

I wish you well

Hi toonfandang

Technology is a massive enabler.  As you know there is a big debate here in Australia about Telstra, the Internet and their fiddling around regarding broadband and mobile technologies.  We take very much for granted mobile phones, SMS, MMS, GPS, netbooks, UMPCs, etc, and being connected no matter where we are.  It enables people to discover each other no matter where they are.

I lecture in mobile and WEb technologies at UTAS in Hobart and it is interesting to discuss with the 20 year olds how they would feel if their mobiles and Internet connections were taken away.  At least in Queensland you have decent broadband - here in Hobart the fastest we can get is 5 Mbps.  On the mainland speeds are up to 100 mbps.

Talking about change - one thing that you can be very sure of is change - it will always happen.

Cheers

Malcolm
