Hoorah, I will be coming down to Cape Town for a few days in April, before going to Durban. Haven't been back to SA since 2004, so can't wait. Unfortunately I won't be there long enough to fly up to Oranjemund. That will have to wait till my next trip. Does anyone have any advice to give me on the Cape wine routes? I don't want to waste time and money on places that are just there to rip tourists off.

Sandy, Bertie or that wine guzzling Aunty Diana will be your best bet...

On the members list, you will find one Glibert Kermis, the French speaking ex Oranjemunder, now I have this on the most excellent of authority, that when this man left Oranjemund a few years back, his wine collection took up a large percentage of the removal truck...... anyhow, I know that ol' Gilbert knows the wine roots, so you should drop him an email.....

Thanks Mike. I'll send Gilbert an email. Bet the 'Cape guys' and our national pole-dancer will have some good tips to give me too.

@ Patricia

I would take an organized tour. That way you can at least drink without getting in to trouble unless you just want to do sight seeing. Frenchhook should be on your list. I like Stellenbosh....

I love Franschoek and Stellenbosch. Went there the last time I was in SA. The problem is that there are so many wine farms that I think it's better if I know which ones to avoid. As for the organised tour, I'm one of those people who can't stand being taken around like a kid. You can't go left if the tour guide has decided that you must go right. I get bored listening to all their bla bla. So I prefer doing my own thing. Besides, I don't drink much, so I'll surely be the dedicated driver that day ...

I didn't say that I don't drink, but I'm sure that I won't be over the authorised limit to drive. My boyfriend on the other hand definately will ... hammer

Its hard to stay in the limits, very low novadays at least here one glas of wine is almost the limit

But if you are drunk on SA roads, you are in good company LOL
