Is Bowls an Old People's Sport?

Is bowls and old people's sport? I fear that it might not be too long before this club will have no option, but to close

their doors..... their membership has taken a serious dive of late..... it would be so sad to see such a pioneering

institution in Oranjemund close their gates...... Why , I start this topic off on the subject, 'Is Bowls and old People's

Sport?", is , I feel that the one way to solve the poor membership sceanrio, would be to have a junior bowls section to the

club...... get the school to allow Grade 8, 7 and 6 to enter teams on a Saturday afternoon, just to see if we can spot

anymore Sandy Jouberts..... these grounds are some of the best in Namibia..... it would indeed be a shame to let this piece

of our history fade into time....

Mike, I speak under correction but I believe the school had a bowls afternoon / evening event earlier in the year. I'm not sure of the exact details but speak to Coreen as she was organising the event.

Anyway, if one looks at the ages of the bowlwers in the Western Cape, they appear to be getting young every year.

Mike!! I know in Brisbane on Sundays they play bare foot bowls, and its quite popular with the younger generation.

No comment  ...      and  not not an old mans sport .. prob being the liesurely lifestyle has all but disapeared in this current  timeframe of life .. the time .. the effort .. people tired from chasing life , money .. survival ..  its sadly so different times .. life  has become frenetic , I sense it all the time and it hurts my psyche ... would like to  do as my mom occasionaly said  " stop the world I want  to get off  "  thats my sense and 2 $ worth ...

OK Mike Jenny!!! you are suggesting NUDE bowlers, well if you are saying that for the younger generation well I don't mind participating in that.

As long as you do not expect ME the older gen to go out in their birthday suits to play, just the thought of it has me on the floor with laughter.   

There is an ad on TV here, and its a corset (American) and its aimed at people around size 14-16 and if you wear this contraption it brings you down to size 8

Hi Sandy, I remember that you were one of the eager participants in a game of Bowls at the reunion last November. I can't remember their names but you played with the lady & her two daughters from England. And if I remember correctly, it looked as if you had played before, a bit of a ringer I might say..........

Bowls definitely not an old peoples sport. We had many teams up in Phalaborwa made up of 30 something's. Maybe there just wasn't enough old people living there.

Mike  it was me  Bev and  her daughters  Kati and Linzi ..  our team was named the 4 non blondes ... Yes  I have played bowls once before in my life ...  it was a charity day in the 70's .. and yes I was a natural .. dont know if  it was the years  of watching while  my Mum and I  waited  for my Dad and the questions about the bias , but it was all remebered .. I remember on that  day many years ago  I  slaughtered  our opposing team .. that night last year ,, well a bit alcohol compromised  but yes  still had the feel  for it ..

Mike Jenny you can get these corsets through a TV sponsored company called DENOZ Direct (I am pretty sure its an American comp.) as I think they all are.

Seen the ad yesterday (still laughing)and it amazes me how these lady presenters can do it, they talk while showing their pearly white teeth in a permanent smile, and the before and after shots are incredible from size 16 to 8 were the hell does all the other stuff go.



As for the old geezer running around in the starkers I hope he was paid well can you imagine all his female friends (that's if he still has any left) using the little finger on the right hand (or left hand) to depict his appendage...........................................................Frank.

Diana ....I remember many years ago when we were first married, that was in the UK, and the butchers shop was around the corner.

We used to pay him 10 shillings a week and through out the following week we would get our daily needs chops, mince 'etc' well his son worked in the shop and he was a keen bowler, he was a few years older than myself.

My landlord lived upstairs and was best man at our wedding (I was his at his wedding) well the butchers son had persuaded my friend to take up bowling, and every time I went in the shop he was always on to me about joining up in the bowling team.................................................................................................



Now as I say I was JUST MARRIED with a Beautiful girl WERE in the HELL would I have the time to play bowls ....................................Frank....
