Zille offered De Lille the Premiers position ..

In the paper tonight ...  Ms De Lille  would have been premier of the western Cape  if she had agreed  to  merge her party with the DA ...this  was  part of the horse  trading  pre  elections ... Zille said  that  twice she had offered her the premiership  and  she ( Ms Zille )  would have continued in her powerful seat  as mayor of cape town ..  If  one looks at  what transpired  although a difficult choice at the time  for  Ms De Lille , it would have effectively meant the " death " of the party  that  she  put her heart and soul into ..  sad fact   is the election results   showed that it  is  indeed dying garnering only a small  percentage of the vote ...
I  admire ms De Lille for her  feisty fighting  character .  something she would ahve had to temper  in the role of premier ... there are similarities  between the two women ,, excepting  Zille  is  better articulated ...
But  what is amazing  is Ms Zille actually being prepared  to forgo  premiership  in the goal of  forging a party with a different  demographic  flavour added ..
Her  words   were  uopn being asked  if there was any talk  of how opposition  leaders would be ranked  within any alliance   she  said .. " absolutley not  , however this is going to take leaders  that are  big  on  vision and courage  and small on  ego and pride ... ""   " that is  what the requirement is going to be "   apparently  there is still engagament  between  various potential  allies ..
As much as the ANC  dislike Ms Zille  as their  now seen as biggest  threat .. they equally hate  Ms De Lille  for her  tearing open the arms  deal  and various other  cans of worms ..I have it on good authority  that she  quietend down  on the arms deal  fiasco  backk then  when she started to get  those phone calls  saying .." hello  nice  children and family  you have ... "  guess the veiled threat .. ??
