Show me a photie, I'm the cameraman lala la dede daaa....

Spotted Mike A out on a patrol this morning. Kelvin and Mrs A along as witnesses. Perhaps Mike wants close-ups of somebody's house and thought the occupants would feel less threatened if he had some company on the photo shoot and looked like a sentimental Oranjemund kinda family collecting pics for his memoirs...

All things electrical contain smoke. Making it come out is easy; getting it back in? ... yeah right!!!

I was just taking a few snaps of a few broken manhole covers, that are of particular danger to kids...... was gonna post them until, somebody mentioned that I was turning into a moaning granny and only post negative things about the town...... SO I am on a guilt trip....

However, I will be posting that blerrie skew lampost that is smackbang in the middle of the town with that diamond on the top of it..... Gee! does'nt that just make the town look tacky? the centrepiece of the establishment leaning like the tower of __________?

That lamppost was never their when we were...........and by the looks of it its bloody imposable to miss it even if you were slightly inebriated.

Its like  Fraser island off the coast (largest sand island in the world.....stuff the yanks) were we are, and a bus tour driver, driving through the sand tracks came to a large Turpentine tree, it split the track so on going traffic would go to the left oncoming traffic to the right and a Yank tourist  made the remark 'what a stupid place to put a tree'................................its true I was on that bus................................................... image04

I think the eyesore of that cheap plastic pole should be removed and replaced with a fountain, just a small one mind you...... It would make one appreciate how lucky we are to live in this "oasis"

Just my 2 cents......

That diamond along with all the other decorative lights would only go up around Christmas time and be removed again early the following year.
Somehow someone from the new generation of imported "oranjemunders" thought it would be quaint to leave the diamond there all year round as a centrepiece for the town.
My first encounters of the street lights down 8th Street were shorter poles with double perspex spheres ontop of a black cross member, with neat alluminium diffusers in the middle of each sphere. (Mike V and Alf, you guys should remember these, we fixed/replaced enough of then in Town Electrical days)
Many of these lampostst were knocked over in time and replaced with a cheaper version.
The pole on the island had 4 lights on it and when somebody took it out with their vehicle a long pole was installed.
Somebody once said to me that put it up high so that the diamond wouldn't be stolen so easily.
Well you can't reach the diamond so somebody made an attempt at bumping the pole an hoping it would fall off the top. Seems like they weren't that lucky...

How much will that cost me...? N$5...?
