Those Blerrie Gas stoves!

I never liked those gas stoves in the houses back then, there were evil spirits in them things, you could'nt light them...the gas built up.... and then KABOOM! ... bright flash, funny smell, your eyebrows were gone.... The could have filmed that movie BAckdraft in those ovens.... We used light the match and chuck it in... and run, hoping it would catch, we wasted about 2 tree trunks of matches in that oven...... but if you were lucky enough to have a top grill..... you could make the most amazing toasted cheese.....

KABOOM, I did that and the cat moved two rooms without his feet touching the floor, me gawd is that why I don't have to pluck my eyebrows.  Boiling condensed milk was hazordous too, especially when leaving 6 year olds in charge of topping up the water, we spend days wiping the ceiling.

I remember that gas stove of yours Mike, I had to clean it....and one night your boet Paul made us hamburgers, we had just come in from the sportman's and the burgers were not burgers at all, they were rocks and we threw them across the room and they bounced off the walls, boy did we laugh...

Those gas stoves were the best. Are'nt there any going for sale....very much the in thing down here in Cape Town.
Michael, are'nt you guys using gas anymore...all electric now?

After growing up with gas stoves, i still can't get the hang of electrical stoves - gas stoves are the best when it comes to having to go from boiling to simmer - just can't regulate electricity like gas.  luckily i didn't have any hairy (excuse the pun) moments with them - maybe that's why i'm still partial to them.

I  too had  those  hairless  and   slightly  suntanned  face look  from  the  gas  stoves too  many  times  .. but  yes  gas  has  left  its  mark .. I  cant  use  anything  else   .. only  problem  is if  you  not  wise  enough to  keep  your spare  filled .. we  had  a gas  shortage  in the  depth  of  winter  and  there  was  I  trawling  the  suburbs  on  a  sunday  looking for  a refill  .. nala  nothing .. no  gas .. good  excuse  to  go  out  and  eat ...

One of the these old stoves blew up in my wife's face, when it was fixedddddddddddddd it blew back on me. Dumped it ouside and told Township I wanted a new one, refused beacuse the wrong patterson grade.
Ended up taking leave driving to CapeTown and purchasing a Eurogas stove, sold it before I left.

On the exit inspection they wanted to know what I had done with the stove

So what happened to the stove in the end? Did you Get Mike Burgess to blow it up in the Sand Quarry one night? This could be the basis of a great Novel on day........

Just curious, did you have to pay when you left? And if so How much? Always wanted to know how much those things were worth....?

I had all my paperwork,
told them that if they tried to charge me for cleaning of a stove ( standard proceedure - even if the wife's done & polished the bloody thing) I would charge them with fraud.
