GOOD  EVENING ,  I HAVE  AN ISSUE WITH DISABLED PARKING BAYS AT YOUR BRANCH  IN  CAPE  TOWN OPPOSITE THE RED CROSS HOSPITAL ... I AM A REGULAR CUSTOMER   THERE         (  NO I AM NOT  DISABLED  BUT A CARING CITIZEN )    AND  SO MANY  TIMES  I SEE  NON DISABLED  CARS  PARKED IN THE DISABLED BAYS  IE : NO  DISABLED STICKER ... I HAVE ON A  FEW OCCASIONS  CHALLENGED THE PEOPLE  PARKED THERE WHO ARE OBVIOUSLY NOT DISABLED   ONLY  TO  BE THROWN A RACE CARD .. SIMPLE  THING  IS  THESE FOLK ARE TOO  LAZY TO WALK A  FEW EXTRA METRES ..  I HAVE  ENGAGED MANAGEMENT  THERE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND   I GET THE SHRUGGING OF SHOULDERS  AND " WELL SIR  ITS A DIFFICULT  THING  WE CLAMP THEM AND GET   ALL SORTS OF PROBLEMS "  WELL I DONT  SEE  IT AS  A PROBLEM   ITS  BASIC  INCONSIDERATION  AND LAZINESS  ON THE PART OF THE PERPETRATORS  WHO PARK THERE DESPITE THE  DISABLED SIGNS BEING  LARGELY DISPLAYED ..  I SUGGEST YOU  GIVE  A STERN BRIEF OF ZERO TOLERANCE  TO YOUR MANAGEMENT  , THAT BEING  WOOLWORTHS  IS  THE   ANCHOR  TENANT  THERE ,, AND YES  ALWAYS ESPOUSES  FAIRNESS  ETC ... I RECALL SO MANY TIMES IN   THE LESS THAN 10  QUEUE  AT SOME SHOPS  WHEN  DESPITE  IT BEING CLEARLY  SIGNPOSTED  A  MANAGER    KINDLY INFORMING A  CUSTOMER WITH A LOADED  TROLLEY THAT  THEY WERE  INCONVENIENCING THE  CUSTOMERS IN THAT QUEUE  .. THAT IS WHAT GOOD SERVICE IS  ABOUT  , WE PAY A  PREMIUM AT WOOLWORTHS FOR QUALITY  GOODS  AND SERVICE  AND IF THE ATTITUDE OF   A  MINORITY OF PEOPLE WITH NO  BREEDING AND MANNERS OR CONSIDERATION  WHO   SHOVE  THEIR WAY AROUND   INTERFERES   WITH   YOUR  PROMISE OF A QUALITY SHOPPING EXPERIENCE  THEN THEY ARE WELCOME  TO SHOP ELSEWHERE   WHERE        JUMPING QUEUES  ,  TAKING THE WRONG  TILL  LANE   OR    TAKING  OVER DISABLED  PARKING BAYS   IS  ACCEPTED ..  WE DONT  NEED THEM  IN YOUR  QUALITY SPACE ...  REGARDS   ALEXANDER BUCHANAN

I absolutely agree Sandy. My mom has a disabled sticker and just last week at Bayside I threw a wobbly. Here I approached the diabled bays as only I can "Here comes Diana and Elsie make way" kind of attitude only to find them all full. Fair enough, but not to be outdone I found myself a little gap out of the way close to the door and asked the sercurity if I could park there with my sticker and my 80yr old mother with the broken knees as all the bays were taken. Oh no says he. After much debate a car pulled out from normal bay close by and I ended up parking there which was fine. Then as I passed the disabled bays I noticed not one but 2 Mercs parked there without stickers soooooooooo of I marched to the same said sercurity man and dragged him along to the offending cars wheel clamps and all. After our shopping Mom and I sat at a coffee shop close by waiting to see said offenders faces. Out came perfectly healthy young people what followed was priceless.................Geez that was a long story.    image04

Dead right Sandy! whether its queue jumping, parking in disabled parking spots, driving a vehicle, or loutish behaviour, Manners have disappeared, this below is from a British survey.

More than half (56.5 per cent) of Britons believe that bad manners is the biggest problem in the country today with 67 per cent saying that it is the root cause of anti-social behaviour plaguing society.

In a wide-ranging survey on modern manners for ITV1's Tonight programme, 86.2 per cent of respondents (2800 adults responded to the survey) said the Britons are ruder now than 10 years ago. And 85.5% of respondents said they would prefer to receive a 'please or thank-you' than a £1 from a stranger.

Spitting (27.6 per cent) and swearing (20.2 per cent) were named as the two most offensive behaviours, with others such as queue-jumping, not saying please or thank you, inconsiderate driving, belching/passing wind, speaking loudly on a mobile phone, playing music loudly on a MP3 player and not giving up a seat for a pregnant woman coming much further down the list.

TOP 10 RUDE BEHAVIOURS

Spitting 27.6%

Swearing 20.2%

Queue jumping/pushing in 13.3%

Not saying please or thank-you 10.1%

Playing loud music on a personal music player in a public space 6.9%

Passing wind/belching in public 4.8%

Speaking loudly on a mobile phone in a public space 4.7%

Inconsiderate driving i.e. stealing someone's parking space 4.7%

People not giving their seat up for a pregnant lady 3.3%.................    well have not seen a pregnant man yet

Not holding the door for the next person 1.8%

None of these 2.7%

Well were does the blame lie...................Could it be Political  ape ape correctness.....?????

So true.  Moral values definitely going out the back door...  I think education here big part to play, and I'm also talking about education which starts at home.
Simple example- I had patient on Saturday.  Wanted to open a file - she mumbles address and name (after I asked her to put down cellphone for a minute - was busy "mixit"-ing), so I gave her the form to fill in herself - she is 22 years old, but doesn't know what her date of birth was??? Then her address - contained the surname "Oosthuizen", which she spelled: "Osthysin",  and address was Posbus xxx, which she spelled "posbis".  Now tell me, how do you expect a society to be considerate (taking other people into consideration in daily life), if you obviously don't have the most basic skills?  Well yes, the hair is done, nails painted, funky clothes, jewelery everywhere, latest cellphone in hand, but reading, writing, counting.... absent !
SAD!

I still blame what is happening these days on the lack of basic discipline. If children were taught to behave and respect others and their belongings from their parents, many of today's problems would not be there.
Walking in our local mall the other day, I was shocked to see the attitude by teenagers pushing their way through door entrances etc without due regard to those around them. If these same children, yes I call them children were taught basic discipline at an earlier age then this would not be happening at all. But is it too late to start................??????????

Agreed on all  said ...  I  await my answer from woolies ....  sadly  so the  usual perpetrators  are usualy  huge SUV's ,  Merc and BMW's and yes  all the  folk  perfectly healthy ... My habit at shopping centers  is to try park away  from the  melee  so as to avoid  damage to vehicle from inconsiderate door thrower openers .. and yes  walk  the mile ..

Sandy there was a Current Affairs program on the TV a little while ago, and they were highlighting this subject 'ie' people parking in disabled spots. The camera's were rolling and this BMW parked in one of these spots, the lady got out and limped till she was away from the vehicle, when she thought she was safe she started walking normally. That was until the TV crew approached her and asked about her behaviour. The lady replied to there questions, and they, replayed the scene of her parking and limping away ..................she got very angry at them and walked  off..................with a limp

Hi  all .. update on this one ....  actually  pure providence .. we had a good lunch  with Kaye ( our current  OM exile )  a  walk  to the garden plot and more chats ,,,  mm seems I choose my friends well ,, they got  the same  attitude ,,,  we actually were talking about the disabled bay thing , queue jumping  etc ... anyhow  Kaye  went  of to her exile palace ,, I  dropped my  congolese painter off   at Mowbray  and then  proceeded to woolies  in klipfontein road ( the  same one )
To relate ...  In the  middle of  last week as I was   walking from my  car to the entrance and  I saw a car parking  with no disabled sticker  ,, I smiled and pointed to the  sign ,, the lady  with her daughter  in the car smiled  and promtly  hung her disabled sticker on the mirror ... then proceeded to get out of the car  with her  walking sticks ... I carried  on .. in the shop ...  in  the shop  she engaged me and  said " thank you for being so considerate  to  take a stand for us with disability ,,, I  dont drive  with the sticker  on the  mirror because it  distracts my view "  that was a good moment ...
Anyhow  as I  am leaving  woolies this evening .. I see a Honda Ballade  parked  there .. there is a  young man in the back seat ... my curiosity  and radar on alert  .. no  disabled sticker ...
History .. I am  used to  being in this situation  kind of ignored or called  racist by the  mama in  her  suv ..  blindly nose in the air ignored by the skinny  trophy wife in her  merc ... derogatory racist  retort from the young dumb  full of  cum  , spoilt rotten  by daddy  perfectly healthy  young men  in  their bling bmw  or whatever .. in case  anyone asks No  I have not yet had to  engage  any young  WASP in  the act  of inconsideration ...
This evening was  an eye opener ... as I got to my car I observed this perfectly healthy middle aged man  wearing  a certain type of headgear  that indicates that he goes  to his place of worship  regularly  prays  fervently,  and  displays this really holier than thou  attitude  walking back to the car with his equally healthy and mobile daughter ..  I engaged him and asked if he was  aware that he   was parked in a disabled  parking space ... the   answer was ,,, what has it got  to do  with  you ... I replied calmly  it has to  do with the fact  that one day    you or one of your family  may  need to use this space ,  your children  in the car  are observing this and are not being given the right  example ... the tirade I got was  horrendous ...
F....  you  whats it got to do with you ....  My response ...  aren't you ashamed of the way you are carrying n  in front of your  teenage children ?? what sort of example  are you setting ??    more  f... you and go ffff   yourself and  the finger offered  in the  hope I might want  to spiral on  it ...  me  all the time calm and very in control .. asked again  are you not ashamed of  the display  you are giving to your  children ... more  fff you anf ffff urself ... he then departs ,,,  the finger  hoping for my  wanting to  spiral my self on it  displayed from the window ...
Saaad  saad  very sad part of  this was  there  were people within  1 m of  me  seeing and hearing this  display of utter  inconsideration and rudeness ...  and they did not even  take notice ,, instead  carrying on with their whatever mindless duck and don't get involved  conversation ...  is this  where its at  today ... ??
The  man concerned will tomorrow go to his place of worship ,, play the devout ... not realizing he has done major damage ...   his children have now seen  how  they should  behave  in future  whenever  doing something  wrong ... and worse  so is seeing that  most folk around don't give a hoot  so their chances of getting away with it are even greater ...  aaag  theres a few  unhappy disturbed folk  around .. most people don't take  notice   so we can do whatever ,,,  sad  sad  sad ...

Ugh, that boils the blood.  So sad indeed. Should have something like that on film and play it in their place of worship on a big screen, with a spotlight shining down on them for all to see their true colors...

It is sad to hear and see, I agree that it all starts at home. Children are not brought up the way we were with respect and morals. Instead today parents give them money and drop them off at malls etc and they just do thier own thing. Bertie, that will be a good one you mentioned to play it on a big screen at the church. I belive there will be a lot of red faces!!!!

I use the Sandy logic and park a good distance from the entrances, as I find it a lot easier to get out of the parking lot! Recently I was in a mall parking lot in PE with my daughter, and having walked from the car to the entrance, we noticed one of these "lazy" shoppers parking in a disabled bay. My daughter whispered to me that there didn't seem to be anything wrong with the "lady", to which I answered in a voice loud enough to be heard by said transgressor "Shame my darling, but she is disabled......she can't read!" You won't believe it, but she got back into her car and moved it!!

I think Bob Dylan said it 40 years ago:

"Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you don't understand.
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is
Rapidly agin'
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'!

Thank goodness sometimes something happens that's on the total opposite end of the spectrum....
Last weekend I saw something here that left me completely speechless - it was almost too good to be true. Here's the feel-good story of a wonderful gesture:
My Dad was visiting me at the plot for a few days. He left again at around 7 am on the Saturday morning - it was still pitch dark. The gate to the plot is about 100m from the house. He stopped at the gate, and for some reason switched the car off, and got out to unlock the gate in the dark. A small white car came down the road which runs down the side of the property.  The driver of the car saw my Dad standing at the gate, trying to open the lock, so he stopped, reversed at an angle so his car's lights would shine on the lock for my Dad to see better, and when my Dad had the gate open, waved and continued on his way....

Now isn't that just wonderful?  Ok, there's some unwanted low-lifes everywhere, but something like this makes it worth staying in the platteland?  He had absolutely no obligation to do what he did, and the sad part is, I don't even know them - I wish I could see the registration number - I would certainly have liked to give them a bottle of honey, or some Melon & ginger jam I cooked just to say thank you!

Its all good Bertie ... thats the common thread of  human decency and consideration that should be in existenece at all times .. in traffic with folk trying to merge  I give  space ,, in return I normally get it ... the universal give and take normally applies .. for the inconsidierate cretins  I try to  bite my ass and  forget they actually exsit  ,, unfortunately I am constantly reminded they indeed  do ... take a few breaths and  let it pass through ,, then again at times stand your ground and give them hell  that they deserve ,,,,    hammer
