A Light Oranjemund Riddle!

While having a chat to my Father in Law, Mike Voden, about where Kenny used to live in 2nd ave...way back...an interesting question was posed! If you are at the 5th ave circle, the first one, ans look south towards the dumps, Angling Club, you will see that on every street corner, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 the re is a street lamp. These street lamps are in a straight line, except for the one in 2nd ave, it stands 2 metres back than the rest. This was intentional..... Your riddle Ex Oranjemunders, Why is this?

There could be many reasons

I can think of some responsible collegues that may have been in Sportsmanns arms and then installed the lamp the way it is.

Claire, my father in law was sent to move the light, due to the fact that second avenue was on the busroute, that light was on the corner and on quite a few occasions, the bus would knock the pole over, whilst cutting the corner.... Heather Ramage brought him coffee as it was outside their house... Well Done!

We lived in the house on the corner for about 5 years. Only once was the lightpost knocked over.
A certain member of an Oranjemund club was driving the first "Sports" bus and was in a wee bit of a hurry to get to Alex Bay to collect a visiting sports team. He tried to turn the corner but, as he did not have the required skills, he went through the light post. My kids at the time were playing - in the dirt of course as kids do - below the light post. Thankfully, he missed them. I blew my top, as he DIDN'T STOP. He just bloody well drove of, leaving the light post lying across the road with sparks shooting out and 3 wee kids wondering what the hell had happened. I phoned security and the driver was "arrested" and relieved of his driving duties at Swartkops on his way back into town. He later told me that he was highly embarrassed to be "removed" from his drivers seat in front of his visitors. Not a word from him about my kids!!!!

I was "pressured" to drop the case against the driver as it could have cost him his job. I agreed under 3 conditions - the lightpost and fence must be moved and the drivers ability to drive a bus be revoked.

It does sound funny now, but at the time it was scary - he missed my kids by about a metre.

Nothing funny about that Kenny, I always wonder about half the bus drivers in this town, how they get around that circle in the middle of town...... most hit the kerbs...... others go flying down the roads to keep on time with their schedule, ramping a speedbump or two...... and at least your kids are OK......
