I left Omund about 7 years ago.  My parents left about 4 years ago i think.  We stayed in that house when i was in St. 5.

Somewhere else in the basement of this forum, are more pics of that house, The Benton Boys were here on a visit from Scotland 3 months back, it turns out that house was also there house back in the late 80's..... Small world...One house....

Yeh that is true.  We lived a few houses and i cant remember where they all were. I remember the E21-7th ave.  I believe things has changed alot in Omund now.  Even just in this time that i have been gone from there.

Michael Alexander

Yep! Yep! a lot of people are moving around.... things are gonna change a lot more and that's why I am trying to convince the old timers that if they were ever planning a reunion here, they should come along in November while there are still a few familiar things here.... I personally believe Oranjemund will have a good future and like a lot of places is just in a slump phase..... I still think it's great living here, rustig..... the beach this morning was a perfect example of the beauty of living here...........

Yeh i agree that it is a nice place to live.  I just showed a friend of mine some of the pics on the site and she can not believe how beautifull it is there.  What i miss the most is the peace when you go sit on a dune or by the river.  I dont get that anywhere else.  I believe they are talking about making it a open town now.

Every year they say that.... it was meant to be April last year... then they said September..... then they said April 2008.... and then started with September 2008, but I already heard form a prominent person, who actually got angry with me, that it will not be happening for a few years..... A friend in Nature conservation also told me, that Oranjemund will never ever become a normal open town, as it is in the SPerrgebiedt)to be proclaimed) National PArk, there will still be access control , but not as strict, De Beers were planning to do away with the controls, But the road to Rosh Pinah has to be proclaimed..... but not the Mines North Bank road as it goes through diamond area.....The Councillor , Toivo also explained to me a few weeks back, that a new road would have to built through the dune belt to Rosh Pinah first then proclaimed and only then can the town semi open..... Now to build a road like that will take at least 6 years with all the survey and finding of funds..... SO it will not be happening soon,

Thats my 2 cents worth....

I thought as much.  Said to someone here that i dont think that they will really open the town completely.  So how is the crime and stuff there now.  I so would like to come and visit there again but i am sure that one day I will get the chance to come.

Michael Alexander

There's crime, but nothing earth shattering....... Still sleep rustig in die aand.....
