Tree's in Oranjemund!

I thought I had posted these snaps. I was walking down the streets one evening a few months back and was admiring the vast variety of tree's that Oranjemund boasts..... those guys back in the 50's that planted these tree's would be amazed at how they turned out.....

Hi Sandy
Enjoyed your tree pictures so much.  Its the one thing that really is impressive on the gardening side of O/M.  I often take a book on identifying trees (local that is) and do a walk about the local country.  When I was in CDM, I visited the two large palms at Jasper house that have been there forever.  I have wondered if anyone would have the knowledge to do a kind of "type" inventory on the O/M trees..  I dont know enough about trees.  Like many other things in life.

Mike and Michele Alexander have some Cypress trees in their back garden.  I thought that was pretty awsome.

I might take the opportunity to post some pictures of fig trees I am growing in minus 20 celsius weather.  I propogated them from CDM fig trees planted by Lei's folks - 40 years ago.  There are two trees left from what was a lovely garden at E14/11.  Its a kind of remembrance issue for us.  The other survivor is a grape vine the Austins planted.  Time marches on...

@John, You still got that fig tree cutling then? You know you cannot smoke that when it grows!

Mike, I propagated two form the CDM twig and after 2 years, took 3 cuttings.  One survived and is 2 inches tall.  The original two are about 3 feet tall and planted in the garden.  Leaves have fallen due to the weather.  I have gift wrapped them with cloth for the winter weather and we shall see if they survive.  I also planted one up the road at Bronwyn's house.  I am wondering why I wrote such a long response....

I have a small fig tree here in Bonnievale who's ancesters also made a turn in OMD.  My Dad took a cutting from a tree at "Meeu Bay" when they went fishing there, probably in the 70's. Apparently it was planted there by the Germans during the war.  Dad planted it in our garden in E10/11.  That was only the beginning!! Each time parents moved, cuttings went along..... Meeu Bay -> E10/11 -> 14th Avenue -> Kleinzee -> Koiingnaas -> Malmesbury -> Bonnievale.!!!!
