I watched a documentary this week about hydraulic fracturing in the US of A called 'Gasland'.  It was very disturbing.  On Friday I attended a public form where all parties got to have their say.  Shell's say was not very convincing.  I want to encourage everyone to read up on the topic and post comments to westernkaroo@golder.co.za by 5 April 2011.

There are a nuber of websites you can go to:  http://www.fractual.co.za

The doccie will be screened at the Mountain Club in CT on Tuesday.

If you care about your environment and the quality of water in the Karoo make an effort to be informed and take a stand.  Do something!

Sheila, I watched Gaslands about 3 months ago, got it from the net.... anyhow, it was disturbing how folk could set their water in their kitchens on fire..... the health problems they were experiencing and above all.... this was in the States, not some 3rd world country....

SOuth Africa will go ahead with this, because of Greed....and also political in the hope of creating much needed jobs.....

This is gonna be one big mistake for South Africa, but no amount of meetings are gonna prevent it.....

They had a discussion on the topic on TV about 2 weeks ago.  Very disturbing.  I was glad to see there were some high society involved to try and stop the destruction of the Karroo (which will definitely be reality if this materializes). One lady who spoke and was very upset, was some princess - dont know if she was from Holland or Monaco?
In any case, I will definitely add my objection on any forum/discussion/petition. I have seen and heard enough from experts, and the people who would really be affected - the people who actually stay in the Karroo. It's scary, very scary.
